The Queen Revealed (The World of Evendaar Book 2), by A. R. Winterstaar

About the Author Adelaide Rose Winterstaar was born in a stone castle on the top of a hill surrounded by mountains. She spent most of her childhood staring out of windows and wishing that her life was so much other than it was. As a young woman she pursued a career in psychotherapy but was far too sympathetic to her patients’ fantasies to be much help in dismantling them. She left her practice to travel the world and give herself over to a bohemian lifestyle embracing the crowning principles of truth, beauty, freedom and love. However, after many years, Winterstaar came to the conclusion that none of her romantic ideals could be realised in yet another lover’s arms or the shaky embrace of hallucinogenic drugs. So she retreated back to that stone castle in the mountains and created her own world instead. Her interests include: the melancholy pondering on the fickleness of men’s hearts while wandering through the shadowy vales of her mountain home; writing endless reams of iambic poetry on the truth of freedom and the beauty of love then hiding the papers in odd places about her drafty old castle, or burning them to ashes in the kitchen fire, depending on her whim. She also likes collecting new ways of describing God, forging platonic relationships and learning new languages. She dislikes tardiness in others, cats of all kinds and the intense awkwardness of the ‘morning after’ a tryst. All of the books that Winterstaar bothers to publish are works of complete fiction. Though the author often wishes this wasn’t the case and dreams that one day she will, in fact, discover that it is her own life that is the fiction, and truly become a fictional author in her own right. A.R. Winterstaar urges all of her readers to see out the truth, beauty, freedom and love in their own worlds and, if finding none of these things, beseeches them to invent their own.

I would definitely give the first book in the series a solid 5 rating. This is the second book in the series and I would give it a solid 4 except for the last part of the book when things really got rolling and that would be a 5 rating. . The stories deal with Adelena who is transported to another world to fulfill and ancient prophecy that she will save this new world when the end of time came. This world is full of wizards and dark characters with plenty of twists and turns. At first Adelena seems in over her head as she has no magic in a magical world. She was declared Queen in this new world when her only role on earth previously was that of a housewife. The culture was totally different than earth and initially it seemed as though Adelena has been given an impossible task when declared ruler. There were periods in the book when everyone seemed interested in manipulating her in order to fulfill their view of the prophecy and to meet their ambitions. However, as the story developed Adelena discovered secrets about herself and hidden gifts as well as some internal darkness and she grew in strength and ended up triumphing over the manipulators. The background story on how Adelena became eligible to be declared Queen was fascinating. I loved how she was a young mother of three children as this is unusual and her children enhanced the story. As a mother I could empathize with her great determination to protect her children and definitely believe your love for your children can make you brave and do things that you normally would feel is impossible. I also enjoyed the darkness and how broken her love character was. I am absolutely fascinated with the ending in the second book and can not wait to see what happens next. The primary reason I gave the second book a slightly lower rating than the first is the action was not quite as intense until the latter part of the book when it took off with great intensity leaving you on the edge of your seat. I do recommend this book. I received this book free from Netgalley in return for honest review.

For more reviews, visit www.plantohappy.com.}I read both The Child Revealed and The Queen Revealed, the first two books in this series. In The Child Revealed, we are introduced to Adelena, who is magically transported with her children to another world. Adelena is a "fish out of water" on Evandaar and we learn about the culture and magic along with her. We are also introduced to the prophecy she is being manipulated into fulfilling. The story continues in The Queen Revealed and there will eventually be a third installment. This series has an epic fantasy feel (which is how Amazon categorizes them), but interspersed among the world building and descriptions of magic are graphic, romance novel-ish, love scenes. As I've mentioned before, I gave the romance genre a shot, but it just isn't my thing. I also felt like the background characters, like Adelena's children and servants, were cardboard cutouts. They lacked depth and texture because we know next to nothing about them. The character development improves in the second novel, where we learn a bit more about Adelena's children (and even their pets). In both novels, the plot was fast paced and the world building was measured out well. The World of Evendaar series would be perfect for the romance novel fan in your life, especially if they also appreciate epic fantasy novels.

There are too many questions left unanswered and I am really hoping there will be a third book. If done as well as the first two, a third book should tie off the loose ends and give a satisfactory ending to the story.
