5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Kindle made a mess of it By E. Ream This review is only pertaining to the Kindle version. The content of the book would have earned a 5 star review. Information on the schools, layout and details were so helpful. The writeups on each institution gave a really good snapshot of the schools. The kindle is not the best way to read this sort of material unfortunately. Navigating between sections, finding information and skimming pages is really inconvenient in digital format. It took three times longer to navigate through the kindle than just using the paperback. The actual book is not so bulky as to justify using a kindle version to me, as it might be in the larger college search books. This was a journey in frustration that resulted in me just purchasing the paper version-the content was helpful, just not the format.....save yourself the money

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Detailed and Informative College Guide By Lori McNulty I am a high school guidance counselor, and I highly recommend this book. The book has incredibly detailed profiles of top colleges. With quotes from students and all the stats on admissions, financial aid and the student body that you need, this book has everything you need to find the right college for you. All of my students find the book very helpful.

By Amazon Customer Outlier is an exciting continuation of Ari's journey of self-discovery while dealing with or avoiding all those who are seeking to use her extra-human powers for their own benefit. Some of her questions are answered, some are not, but a lot questions and answers remain for the future. This book is a year's worth of dangerous and sometimes near fatal situations that keep the reader involved and wanting more.

The United States is dead and the Democratic Unity killed it.After catastrophic wars and the Meltdown, The Unity rules from its East Coast citadel, leaving the outlands to savages and its strangely altered plants. Outland Exile: Book 1 of Old Men and Infidels, by W. Clark Boutwell

Review "A powerful blend of post-apocalyptic fiction, science fiction and brass-knuckle social commentary ... Outland Exile is a towering tour de force of a novel.  ...Relentlessly visionary, thematically profound and impeccably edited, it is one of those rare stories that both entertains and enlightens, providing a nightmarish glimpse into America's post-apocalyptic future that will stay with readers long after the last page is turned. In short, Outland Exile is a must-read for anyone who loves speculative fiction." -Blue Ink Review October 2015

From the Author The world is getting older. People live longer now on average than any time in the species history. The world is getting younger. The average age of people in some countries has dropped into the twenties. On the 4th of July 2008, I mentioned to a 10 year old Ghanaian boy that it was America's birthday. He could hardly credit that. I went on to mention that both Ghana and the USA had been the colonies of England. He corrected me. "Ghana has never been a colony," he assured me. Having witnessed Nrumah's rise to dictatorship when I was about my friend's age, I wondered what kind of world a short cultural memory might bring. That speculation and the intersection of age, power and faith is a series of book that I have planned called "Old Men and Infidels." Outland Exile is the first installment. Book Two is in draft and the outlines for three and four are done.

About the Author W. Clark Boutwell was born in Chicago and raised outside Philadelphia. Backpacking solo since he was 11 years old, he has walked and climbed much of America. After graduating from Northwestern University Med. School, he has taught and practiced medicine on four continents during the last forty-plus years. He continues to provide intensive care for infants and lives in Alabama with his wife. They have two grown children.Outland Exile is the initial work of a planned four book series, Old Men and Infidels.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Outstanding, Exhilarating Outland Exile By NinaDunton I read mostly nonfiction, but this futuristic novel caught my attention for its projection of future social and political constructs. The protagonist, Malila, finds her world upended once, then twice as she struggles to decide which of two worldviews she wants to embrace. It's well-written and thought-provoking. How do we know if our government is lying to us? What real values are worth fighting for? I find it reminiscent of "Brave New World," but with fast-moving action and short chapters that pull you along with the narrative. The end didn't satisfy me, but I understand a sequel is in the works!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Brilliantly conceived-beautifully executed By Charles Freedom Long Set in the post-apocalyptic realms of the Democratic Unity of America and their enemy, the Reorganized States of America, Outland Exile is the story of Lieutenant Malila Chiu, who is ordered to take her platoon of DUFS (Democratic Unity Forces for Security), out into the Outlands to repair a “sniffer” station that’s been taken out of commission. She is kidnapped and taken on an arduous journey deep into the heart of the RSA.What happens to her, what she learns and does is a cautionary tale, strongly reminiscent of Huxley’s Brave New World and Orwell’s 1984, updated for today’s virtual reality, youth-obsessed culture. There’s ThiZ, the new soma, a soporific drug made freely available, a nation of shallow sheeple effectively ruled by the DUFS, the Outland “savages”, the overarching new Big Brother, CORE, and the O-A, an implant that allows the recipient to quest within the CORE using only the mind to explore CORE space. Boutwell ties all these apparently disparate elements together in a brilliantly conceived and beautifully executed book that continues to rebound in your mind after you’ve read it.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Into The Outland By Bennetts family From the safety and security of her engineered society, Lieutenant Malila Chiu is thrust into the wasteland and into an exile that awakens her to the reality of life beyond the confines of a technological utopia that really isn't. An adventure, a coming of age story, a cautionary tale, and a compelling blend of near future science fiction & rugged pioneer western, this book reminded me in some ways of Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers, Harlan Ellison's classic A Boy and His Dog, and (perhaps most surprisingly) Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian. A new favorite author? Maybe. A book worth reading? Definitely.

20 of 21 people found the following review helpful. a complete waste of time and money By Mark Steele This book completely fails in terms of both quantity and quality of content. Unfortunately negative stars are not a review option. I do not know what the author's qualifications are but it comes across as a middle school paper on water. My quals you ask? I am a licensed professional engineer with a masters in environmental engineering with more than twenty years of interest in water for survival, emergency, or off grid situations.First - to quantity. This is advertised as a 40-something page book so I did not expect an engineering text. However the page number is a stretch. Based on my kindle, the first 18% of this book is front matter. The last 12% consists of ads for other books. So 30% of what is already a tiny book is gone already. I paged through the book and did a word count estimate of 6,000 words or less of content. To put that in perspective, a typical nonfiction business book is 50,000-60,000.Quantity aside, a handy pocket sized book would be great if it were full of useful accurate information. Unfortunately that is not the case with this book. Here is a quote that made me laugh out loud:"A shallow well can be dug by nearly anyone who has the time and inclination. Detailed instructions for doing so are beyond the scope of this book."Detailed instructions for anything are apparently beyond the scope of this. I could sum up the whole book:1)Water is important2)Wells are good. So is rainwater harvesting except where it is illegal (oddly the author never mentions surface water sources).3)Treatment: You can add bleach or iodine. You can filter it using the upside down filter described in the book (it is upside down because although the author uses powdered charcoal and sand he does so in a way that the water passes through the charcoal before the sand - this is backwards). Or boil it.Here is what the author says about boiling:"Using Heat The final method of water purification is to simply boil it. There aren't too many contaminants that can withstand being boiled for longer than ten minutes or so."That's it! The author's entire discussion of thermal disinfection. And it's wrong! First, heat does not purify water, it disinfects it. Admittedly that is a technicality. But second, all sorts of non-biological contaminants will survive boiling. In fact, you might be making them more concentrated. And third, to disinfect water you need to pasteurize it - not boil it. Pasteurization temperatures for water range from 145-160 deg F - significantly less than boiling temperature (210). This is not as important for a survival situation in which you would have no way of knowing water temp. However, if thermal disinfection is your primary means of treating your water in an off grid situation, then following this book and boiling your water for 10 minutes will waste almost 40% of your fuel. Certainly an important consideration.Probably the best advice in the book is the ending: "Good luck! Happy Homesteading". If you follow this book, you will need good luck.

By Emma Smith Interesting read.I find comfort in knowing that there are still knowledgable and brilliant people who knows that water is essential to life and that it is vastly coming to shortage in every part of the globe and people are acting as though it's not happening. Still oblivious.

Good very basic overview By Nero I was hoping for a little more in depth content on water filtering not just simple basics but in general it is a good basic overview of water capturing to purification to finally storing with a few helpful calculations.

Very good character development By Papa Bass Like the other reviewer, I have discovered Harry Collingwood to be a very prolific and gifted writer who produced many books written around the turn of the last century. Each of his books is a pleasure to read. Most of this author's works deal with adventure on the high seas at a time when ships were powered by sail. This book, written in 1884, contains most of the author's usual themes involving pirates, danger, risk, suspense but adds the element of a romantic triangle. Two male suitors are seeking the love of one young lady. One suitor is honest, shy and bashful while the other suitor is devious, dishonest and not above using every dirty trick in the book. The relationship of the two male suitors is deeply woven into the plot and has some very surprising results.I would recommend this book for readers of all ages. The author does use a style of English that is dated but still easy enough to follow and understand. There are nautical, sailing ship terms that can confuse most readers but thankfully the built-in Kindle Dictionary is a great tool.

The Queen Revealed (The World of Evendaar Book 2), by A. R. Winterstaar

About the Author Adelaide Rose Winterstaar was born in a stone castle on the top of a hill surrounded by mountains. She spent most of her childhood staring out of windows and wishing that her life was so much other than it was. As a young woman she pursued a career in psychotherapy but was far too sympathetic to her patients’ fantasies to be much help in dismantling them. She left her practice to travel the world and give herself over to a bohemian lifestyle embracing the crowning principles of truth, beauty, freedom and love. However, after many years, Winterstaar came to the conclusion that none of her romantic ideals could be realised in yet another lover’s arms or the shaky embrace of hallucinogenic drugs. So she retreated back to that stone castle in the mountains and created her own world instead. Her interests include: the melancholy pondering on the fickleness of men’s hearts while wandering through the shadowy vales of her mountain home; writing endless reams of iambic poetry on the truth of freedom and the beauty of love then hiding the papers in odd places about her drafty old castle, or burning them to ashes in the kitchen fire, depending on her whim. She also likes collecting new ways of describing God, forging platonic relationships and learning new languages. She dislikes tardiness in others, cats of all kinds and the intense awkwardness of the ‘morning after’ a tryst. All of the books that Winterstaar bothers to publish are works of complete fiction. Though the author often wishes this wasn’t the case and dreams that one day she will, in fact, discover that it is her own life that is the fiction, and truly become a fictional author in her own right. A.R. Winterstaar urges all of her readers to see out the truth, beauty, freedom and love in their own worlds and, if finding none of these things, beseeches them to invent their own.

I would definitely give the first book in the series a solid 5 rating. This is the second book in the series and I would give it a solid 4 except for the last part of the book when things really got rolling and that would be a 5 rating. . The stories deal with Adelena who is transported to another world to fulfill and ancient prophecy that she will save this new world when the end of time came. This world is full of wizards and dark characters with plenty of twists and turns. At first Adelena seems in over her head as she has no magic in a magical world. She was declared Queen in this new world when her only role on earth previously was that of a housewife. The culture was totally different than earth and initially it seemed as though Adelena has been given an impossible task when declared ruler. There were periods in the book when everyone seemed interested in manipulating her in order to fulfill their view of the prophecy and to meet their ambitions. However, as the story developed Adelena discovered secrets about herself and hidden gifts as well as some internal darkness and she grew in strength and ended up triumphing over the manipulators. The background story on how Adelena became eligible to be declared Queen was fascinating. I loved how she was a young mother of three children as this is unusual and her children enhanced the story. As a mother I could empathize with her great determination to protect her children and definitely believe your love for your children can make you brave and do things that you normally would feel is impossible. I also enjoyed the darkness and how broken her love character was. I am absolutely fascinated with the ending in the second book and can not wait to see what happens next. The primary reason I gave the second book a slightly lower rating than the first is the action was not quite as intense until the latter part of the book when it took off with great intensity leaving you on the edge of your seat. I do recommend this book. I received this book free from Netgalley in return for honest review.

For more reviews, visit www.plantohappy.com.}I read both The Child Revealed and The Queen Revealed, the first two books in this series. In The Child Revealed, we are introduced to Adelena, who is magically transported with her children to another world. Adelena is a "fish out of water" on Evandaar and we learn about the culture and magic along with her. We are also introduced to the prophecy she is being manipulated into fulfilling. The story continues in The Queen Revealed and there will eventually be a third installment. This series has an epic fantasy feel (which is how Amazon categorizes them), but interspersed among the world building and descriptions of magic are graphic, romance novel-ish, love scenes. As I've mentioned before, I gave the romance genre a shot, but it just isn't my thing. I also felt like the background characters, like Adelena's children and servants, were cardboard cutouts. They lacked depth and texture because we know next to nothing about them. The character development improves in the second novel, where we learn a bit more about Adelena's children (and even their pets). In both novels, the plot was fast paced and the world building was measured out well. The World of Evendaar series would be perfect for the romance novel fan in your life, especially if they also appreciate epic fantasy novels.

There are too many questions left unanswered and I am really hoping there will be a third book. If done as well as the first two, a third book should tie off the loose ends and give a satisfactory ending to the story.

Very useful By Elda Elizondo Much has been written about using technology in the language classroom, but very few books are as clear, direct, and useful as this one. It gives a brief description of activities and sites, and then lets you go and explore sites on your own. I loved every idea. Thanks for letting me read it. the book is well thought and will be a hit with language teachers around the world. I wish you the best!

By Gary Wolff As one in my 16th year of teaching English to Japanese university students, I can honestly say this book is the best compilation of technology teaching tips I've seen so far. And I agree with the previous review by MRB, that at only 99 cents, this book is a real steal. Jam-packed with a wealth of recommended resources for incorporating technology into our teaching, including automatic speech recognition, collaborative online learning, use of cloud services, creating digital texts, presentation techniques, classroom management tools, etc., the book contains what appear to be well over 200 URL links for further info. If I may offer just one suggestion, it'd be to add a table of contents to assist with navigation among the various sections. Keep up the great work, Professor Raine!

Practical ideas you can try out in your next lesson By Ricardo Barros I consider myself to be a tech-savvy person, but even so there was a lot to like about this book. As one other reviewer said, you can't get a better bargain than 50 tips for under a dollar. Most of the tips are clrearly explained and there is often more than one app or website suggested for each tip (which means you're getting even more bang for your buck). There's a reminder in the very beginning of the book that rang true to me: it's important to strike a balance between high and low tech activities. So, I've used speech recognition with students this week and it was both fun and profitable. It helped raising their awareness of a couple of pronunciation problems they have and that are difficult to point out. They also enjoyed the fact that their mobile phones were being put to use, whereas I'm usually the one who tells them to keep the phones in their backpacks. I also want to try using Quizlet with the same group, although that will take a little longer to get going, I think. The one negative think I have to say is I wish the cover was related to technology somehow. I realize it's nit-picking, but as a book lover covers are something I always pay attention to and this one makes me thing of teaching unplugged rather than teaching with technology.

Excerpt from The Common People of Ancient Rome, Studies of Roman Life and LiteratureThis book, like the volume on "Society and Politics in Ancient Rome," deals with the life of the common people, with their language and literature, their occupations and amusements, and with their social, political, and economic conditions. We are interested in the common people of Rome because they made the Roman Empire what it was. They carried the Roman standards to the Euphrates and the Atlantic; they lived abroad as traders, farmers, and soldiers to hold and Romanize the provinces, or they stayed at home, working as carpenters, masons, or bakers, to supply the daily needs of the capital. The other side of the subject which has engaged the attention of the author in studying these topics has been the many points of similarity which arise between ancient and modem conditions, and between the problems which the Roman faced and those which confront us.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. limited, but very good for what it is. By P. D. HENDERSON first published in 1911 so the author does make some assumptions that may no longer be accurate about what information scholars prefer to study or already know. But also the author's language seems to me less affected than most academics of his time, which makes the book easier to read. The book has a usable table of contents and a clickable index of reasonable detail. This makes looking up specific passages or information much easier. In a "free" book that's actually sorta rare (even though it is practically indispensible for any serious work). The subjects covered in the book are rather haphazard. The book tries to cove a wide range of topics with less detail than I would have preferred. So it is of limited use for any serious research but gives a good overview which would be useful to familiarize oneself with a range of options before deciding which to pursue farther. The book itself is organized as a collection of several essays which have little to do with each other. The topics covered are as follows:1- How Latin became the language of the world.a discussion of reasons why Latin stayed in popular use when the languages of other conquering empires often have not.2- The Latin of the common people.Discussion of dialectical differences throughout the empire and how they led to the different modern descendant languages.3- Poetry of the common people.not really so much about poetry as it is about the daily life, beliefs, and psychological makeup of the common man in Rome and Italy. The essays on either side of this are mostly about linguistics and philological topics so it is easy to look at the title to this essay and mistakenly classify it as more of the same. But really it goes much deeper than that.4- Origins of the realistic romance.By which the author means specifically fiction Novels. A discussion of some of the more obscure aspects of literary history and the historical development of lengthy prose fiction. I found this essay of very limited use as a reference source but it touches on many points which were new to me and suggested topics for further research. For example, I had never heard of the "Milesian Tale" literary classification which is casually mentioned in this essay. I learned far more from the Wikipedia entry on the subject than I did from this book but without the book I wouldn't have known to look it up at all; and so the essay was useful to me in a limited way.5- Diocletian's edict and the cost of living in ancient Rome.An early attempt at price fixing to prevent inflation and a discussion of the effects it had and why it failed to work. This essay wildly deviates from the previous essays into the realm of economics. It includes the full list of all items covred under the edict and comparative prices (to 1900 era).6- Private benefactions and their effect on municipal life.On the surface this seems like a continuation on the theme of economics but it is really more about politics and the practical differences between the roman version of democracy and modern institutions. This essay gives some interesting insights into the causes of the eventual decline of the Empire as well. I found it to be very enlightening in a broad number of ways.7- Corporations and trade guilds.Another essay that seems to be about one thing but diverges. In one way this is a continuation of the economic theme, as it talks about early versions of corporate trusts and stock markets (of a sort). But the guilds of the time were more like what we would today call a social club or secret society, so it touches on societal life and the political life of common workers.8&9- the final two essays are each dedicated to the lives of a specific Roman individual: Gaius Curio and Gaius Matius. Both of them were moderately wealthy and so not what I would personally consider "the common man". But the details of their lives are still revealing of some insights that the more popular histories would not cover.Overall this seems like a very worthwhile collection and something that should be of great interest to anyone trying to get a more comprehensive picture of lesser known aspects of Roman life. It won't give you any kind of edge on your history midterm, but will be very useful as a touchstone for real study.

I didn't learn much By brian toomey I have read quite a bit about Ancient Rome and found very little about the common people. My guess would be that the writers of the time were more interested in the Emperor and those in the inner circle.Much has been lost that would have been a great read, such as the autobiography of Hadrian. This book is a tangled frustrating mishmash of bits and pieces of God knows what that I did not finish.

For instance, it includes a lengthy discussion on wage and price controls attempted by Diocletion, and compares prices and wages to those of the US and UK one hundred years ago.You won't find THAT in many newer books, I will wager!

Teaching for EcoJustice is a unique resource for exploring the social roots of environmental problems in humanities-based educational settings and a curriculum guidebook for putting EcoJustice Education into practice. It provides model curriculum materials that apply the principles of EcoJustice Education, giving pre- and in-service teachers the ability to review examples of specific secondary and post-secondary classroom assignments, lessons, discussion prompts, and strategies that encourage students to think critically about how modern problems of sustainability and environmental destruction have developed, their root causes, and how they can be addressed. The author describes instructional methods she uses when teaching each lesson and shares insights from evaluations of the materials in her classroom and by other teachers. Interspersed between lessons is commentary about the rationale behind the materials and observations about their effect on students.

Review

"This is a very timely book! The growing field of EcoJustice Education needs a book that helps teachers and teacher educators translate complex analytic material into classroom practices and lessons. We have been waiting for this book!"

Rebecca Martusewicz, Eastern Michigan University, USA

"This book translates academic and theoretical works on EcoJustice into accessible curricular materials designed to equip students to reflect critically on cultural roots of the environmental crisis unfolding on the planet. An important strength of the sample lesson plans is that they assume agency on the part of the teacher-reader to adjust these learning activities for student needs in specific contexts. Dr. Turner conveys a sense of respect for the teacher-reader’s professional judgment."

Teresa Shume, Minnesota State University Moorhead, USA

"This lively, relevant and timely text fills a need for practical work in EcoJustice Education."

Audrey M. Dentith, Lesley University, USA

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great book! Smart, helpful! By Debbie I've been teaching writing courses at the college level for the last six years, and I've been looking for more ways to incorporate issues of social justice into my teaching. I piddled around for a while just trying to expose my students to all the horrible stuff going on: factory farms, mountain-top removal mining, climate change, environmental racism. I found myself a little disappointed at how students were reacting. They were horrified by the images we viewed in class, and were always ready to talk about how awful these things were, but they always seemed defeated by everything. Their view seemed to be "that sucks, but humans are just naturally this way."Turner quickly clued me into something I hadn't yet articulated: my students believed that things would never change because they didn't understand that all these attitudes and practices that are destroying the planet are cultural, and culture can change! This actually brings me to my review of the book.Teaching for Ecojustice is a really great resource for teachers who want their students to wrestle with problems of culture. Turner points out that since so much of what's going wrong with the world have their beginnings in things like attitudes and beliefs, our classrooms should be places where we challenge those common beliefs about the environment and the human role in it. In keeping, this book is full of great methods for helping students question the attitudes society holds about various things, tapping into student's experiences, and leveraging classroom practices like writing to help students practice critical and empathic thinking.Turner definitely had classroom teachers in mind when she planned this book. It is very well organized. It balances theory and practice very effectively. Each lesson has clearly spelled-out objectives, assignments, readings, and assessment criteria. I teach college but I imagine that a highschool or middleschool teacher would find this especially useful. What I personally found most helpful was that Turner carefully explains what each element of the lesson is intended to do, what she hopes students will take away from the lesson, and what kinds of writing and speaking she hopes to see to indicate that students are "getting it."I do think I wanted to see more project-based materials. I have been thinking lot about project-based activities. The methods in the book are quite diverse, and there are a few projects, especially later in the book. There is a section in the later lessons where students are assigned to research and report on community activist groups. Largely, these lessons are content-focused, I think. But I still think I'll incorporate some more project-based activities into my classroom in addition to these methods.Overall, this is a great resource! Lots of good ideas for lessons, and better ideas for how we need to change education to address ecological crisis.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. An electrifying original read, Liz Long has crafted her most enthralling and spectacular novel yet, Ignited is not to be missed! By Ethan@ OneGuysGuideToGoodReads Full review and more available at: http://oneguysguidetogoodreads.blogspot.com/2015/10/ignited-donovan-circus-4-by-liz-long.html*****My Thoughts:It isn’t often in the life of a bibliophile that we come across an author who forever changes our lives. Sure we may read 5 books a week and rave about them every waking moment, but how often do we as readers come across a novel or series that resonates with us deeply that it forever changes your bookish life? Not often. Last summer, I was whisked about to the Donovan Circus, I entered the center ring, and to this day I have never looked back. Four incredible novels later, I am so excited to still share the excitement that I felt on that fateful day I read Liz Long’s opening lines. With so much Donovan Circus under her belt, could Ignited really live up to the hype?Yes. So much yes.I’ll just go ahead and say that Ignited has well surpassed the others and has rooted itself as the strongest novel in the series. Long’s writing has definitely improved with each passing installment. When it comes to the plot of Ignited, I was a little leery, but it really panned out in a huge way. Lucy is once again thrown into the line of fire when she joins forces with Gifted-Mobster Augustus Rivers, but in her attempt to play the dangerous double agent, Lucy discovers the dark side may not be all she feared. In this incredible installment of the series, Lucy must decide where her true alliances lie. Has Sheffield and his rag-tag bunch of ‘freaks’ been completely honest with Lucy, or is there a flipside to the impending war she’s fought so hard to control? Friendships will be tested, alliances will wane, and Lucy will truly have to come into her own if she’s going to make it out of this journey alive.I’m going to stay away from talking too much about the plot as with intricacies Liz has created with this one, massive spoilers would be abound. I will say that I’ve deemed Donovan Circus book four as ‘The Dark Lucy Saga’ as we truly get to discover an entirely new side of Lucy in this novel. A side that I’ve been hoping for since we first met her in book one. As anyone who has read the series will well know, Lucy has undergone extreme change and emotional distress since joining with Donovan and the gang. Ignited finally sees Lucy coming to terms with the events of the past and her journey to overcome the darkness is truly an emotional tale.I think my favorite part about this entire series is the complete ensemble cast. Long has done an incredible job of introducing a cast of dozens of characters while making them memorable, but not overbearing. Each character plays an important role to the series, but never steals the spotlight away from the mail conflict. Ignited introduces us to a handful of new characters that really come into their own in this story and will be of vital important throughout the remainder of the series. Donovan Circus fans rest assured that our favorites are still in tow with a lot of story to tell in Ignited. We also see the much anticipated return of Gabriel and a huge shift in the personal love lives of Lucy and Keegan. The cards have been dealt, and Donovan Circus will never be the same as they pick up the pieces in the aftermath of Hunted. As I mentioned previously, Ignited is by-far the most emotional installment of Donovan Circus so far, Long really pulled out all the stops. Long hits on a plethora of important themes such as life and death, forgiveness, struggling with truth, trust, love, loss, and trusting your instincts in a constant battle for Lucy to decipher the difference between right and wrong in a life that’s been completely unfair to her at times. Any reader will thoroughly enjoy to this installment and can easily related to the hardships faced by Lucy on multiple levels. One of the most important things about this series has always been the setting. Long took strides in this installment to bring the story back to its’ circus roots. The excitement, the light hearted fun, and the thrill of the traveling show are gone. Replaced by darkness, mourning, fear, and tension. It’s not the same circus we entered four novels ago, but the setting is back and better than ever. If I had to describe Ignited to someone who had never read the series, I’d much relate it to a 70's spy film with a modern day 'James-Bond-Meets-the-X-Men' feel. I think readers will be pleasantly surprised by the direction Long has taken with this fourth installment. An electrifying original read, Liz Long has crafted her most enthralling and spectacular novel yet, Ignited is not to be missed! With all of this being said, it should come as absolutely no surprise to any reader that I am granting Ignited by Liz Long a near-perfect 5-star review. I couldn’t be any more proud to call myself a fan of this series if I tried. Huge kudos to Long for knocking this fourth installment out of the park! I highly recommend this series to any fans of urban fantasy, paranormal, and upper YA/New Adult readers. Don’t miss your chance to add this series to your TBR today!*****

Another Fun, Action Packed Installement By kindlemom1 (My Guilty Obsession) With the crazy ride that was the third installment in this series, I was eager to jump back in and see where the gang from the Donovan Circus were. How they were dealing with their victories and their loses as well as the danger that I knew was still out there for this rag tag bunch of specials. This was a fabulous addition to the series. It made me sad, it broke my heart in places, especially as they are all trying to grieve and be strong as well as it making me happy that for the most part, they are still a unit. Still strong, still together and still willing to do whatever it takes to help Lucy and get things done. But most of all, it made me remember all over again why this series is so unique and fun.Lucy has grown so much in so many ways and has taken on not only the job of protecting those around her and keeping them safe, but all the people out there like her. In fact, she may have taken on a little too much. But thankfully, she has some pretty amazing friends to help her out along the way...when she lets them that is.All in all, I loved this book and am so excited with all that I just know is to come. Long has impressed me with her writing and how each new book in the series, gets better and better and it makes me even more eager for book five.

Liz Long proved in Hunted that loosing a beloved character was not outside the realm of possibility. The stakes get higher and the danger comes closer to the character with each book in the Donovan Circus series and no one is totally safe. This book opens with Lucy questioning everything and finding no easy answers. Her friends are gone, except for a few who stayed behind. Sheffield is more or less hiding from everyone, including Lucy. The people she has grown to trust and think of as family will be back, but she’s not sure anything will ever be the same. Things don’t get much easier when everyone finally returns. Lucy makes some bold decisions in Ignited. She gains support from some unlikely sources and loses it from people she never expected. There were familiar faces in Ignited and some new ones. There were also quite a few revelations – past and present. Twists and turns were also in full supply and there was more than one occasion that I literally yelled at the author. I shouldn’t have been surprised, I should have seen it coming, but really… REALLY?!? Yikes! No cliff hanger really, but there’s definitely more to come and I can’t wait to see what happens next. I’ll be nice and give the author just a little bit of lead time before I start begging. As a side note, Donovan Circus isn’t a romance, but there is a romantic interest in Lucy’s life… more than one actually and as far as who she should end up with, I definitely have my preference. ;)I received Ignited in exchange for a fair and honest review.
