This books is awesome to learn swift By Sergio Martinez-Losa del Rincon This book is a very nice one to learn swift from scratch, it is useful information from easy topic to difficult ones, you can learn many useful thinks like categories, interpolation, infix/postfix, optionals...Patterns chapter is very handy, because you can reuse your programming techniques to create a more easy code. Also I found very useful optionals information.I learn a lot with this book, it deserves a 5-stars.

But new environments like smartphones deserve dedicated computer languages. I was interested in "Learning Swift" in order to take a smooth dive into the iOS ecosystem programming. This book is very well structured, and will appeal to beginner programmers (with a basic knowledge) as well as seasoned ones.It will take them by the hand to clarify the ins and outs of that specific language, while keeping an eye on what is specific to the devices themselves, even though the language may someday extend to broader horizons. It also deeply covers the object concepts. One of the strength of the book is that it takes you into the guts of the environment it has been designed for (always a requirement for serious developers).Another nice thing is the advanced features such as Design Patterns, in a clear and comprehensive way (tough mission), rendering them immediately useful. And it doesn’t forget about the readers coming with the Objective-C baggage by explaining the specifics and differences, making the transition as smooth as possible.Examples are smart, and they provide good tips well beyond Swift itself, by emphasizing the need to have a clear picture of the application you want to write before actually getting behind your keyboard. Obviously the author is competent, which is a real plus. The book is well written and clear. Backed by the very active online book section (examples, sources, erratas) that Packt is known for makes me give it 5 stars

This book is great even though I've only gotten through a couple chapters. It starts out with the basics of types, collections, conditionals and loops and builds on that. One note, this book was written for XCode 6 and Swift 1.2 so it will hopefully be updated for XCode 7 and Swift 2 when they are released since some of the basic functions are changing, for example the println() function is replaced by print(). The beta for XCode 7 does have functionality to convert the 1.2 to 2.0 code. Hopefully that will be in the final build of XCode 7.I look forward to getting deeper into learning Swift.
