A WOMAN AND HER ROBOT DEFY AN EMPIRE... It is tomorrow—Earth's nation-states are bankrupt and its eco-system has collapsed. A Consortium of twelve mega-corporations rules the planet. The starving masses are controlled by the Consortium's robot army and by "Manna", a life-sustaining foodstuff mined from the sea. But the threat of revolution is growing, driven by a network of renegade scientists determined to bring down the Consortium at all costs. With acts of terror increasing, the Consortium has ordered its top spy, Lucinda Montavi, to infiltrate the scientists. She will be assisted by "Gog", the most powerful robot ever built. Lucinda is unaware her assignment will expose the dark secret behind the Consortium, the scientists, and Manna ... but the greatest secret lies within the robot floating beside her. Gary Naiman has written thirteen novels. His background includes twenty years at Paramount Pictures where he worked with a team of computer scientists and creative artists developing the first CGI and Virtual reality apps. One of his books is being considered for a motion picture.

By Diana In Fruit of the Gods, Gary Naiman leads his readers into a dystopian world of the future where what remains of the human race starves. Robots have replaced the need for human labor—and consequently, for humans altogether. The profit-driven Consortium, Earth’s ruling corporate conglomerate, is burdened with harvesting algae from the Pacific Ocean floor and rationing the “Manna” to the impoverished masses. When this life-sustaining food supply is threatened by anarchists, the Consortium sends Lucinda Montavi to stop them.Lucinda has been a loyal spy, scientist, and warrior for the Consortium for as long as she can remember. Paired with Gog, a super-robot capable of rudimentary emotion, Lucinda’s assignment leads her down a road she never expected to travel, one filled with the frightening truth behind long-held secrets, about the Consortium…and herself.Fruit of the Gods is fast-paced with a strong, suspenseful plot and compelling characters, including several robots. Naiman’s world lays out with technological detail and realism that sci-fi aficionados will enjoy along with the human story of a woman’s awakening to the truth. A great read.

Naiman's "Fruit of the Gods" speaks to this question both effectively and with obvious great pains to honestly convey what he sees happening through the eyes of his main protagonist. It's as if I had just read some works by authors like Toffler or Kurtzweil, and now I see these visions taking life through the experiences of Lucinda Montavi, a.k.a. #0021, and her surreal (or are they?) challenges. I only wish Naiman had included yet more specific illustrations to highlight the depth of his obviously broad-based research. I could have easily read another fifty pages.

The premise is sound -- too much technology and corporate greed make for a dismal future. The two lead characters are the best part, one human, the other a robot. At times, the robot seems the more human. The corporate supremacy line has been used before, but not with the powerful robot subplot. I've read some of the author's other work and enjoy his use of foreshadowing. You never know what's lurking on the next page. The author's style is fast-paced with little digression. The conclusion is quite emotional. Great read for a flight home.
