From the Author The concept for The Undead Unit series and this book (actually the concepts for the first 4 books!) came to me in that twilight moment just before sleep. Since I was treated with chemotherapy a couple years ago, my memory hasn't been the best and I'd taken to keeping Post-It notes on my bedside table. And the coffee table. And in the bathroom (well, that's an exaggeration but you get the idea)! So I jotted down notes for this series using the light from my cell phone (I didn't want to wake the husband).Fang and Claw was extremely fun to write! There were times when the characters just took over and I could pound out 5,000 words a day or more! And I really enjoyed watching the characters and their relationships begin to evolve. I hope you'll enjoy the story and come back for more. Book Two of the series is called Souls of the Reaper and I'll be hard at work on that one very soon!

Vampires, werewolves, shifters, zombies, and other supernatural beings have revealed themselves and integrated into human society. Two of those beings, Lacey, a vampire, and Colton, a werewolf, are police officers in the Dallas, TX Police Department's Major Crimes Unit. The powers that be decide they need a unit dedicated to crimes committed by supernatural beings, but they don't take into account the cultural differences between the types of supernatural beings when they appoint Lacey as the lieutenant of the new unit with Colton as her second in command. The two officers are left struggling to work together professionally when neither trusts the other. Unfortunately for them, there's also a new criminal in town who is committing crimes that are right up their alley. Can these two good cops overcome their differences to save innocent lives? You'll have to read to find out! :-)I really enjoyed this book. It was fast-paced and well-researched and the characters were interesting. I especially enjoyed how the author demonstrated how easily even innocuous actions can be misinterpreted as malicious when we refuse to look at things from another person's point of view. The world Ms. Madden created was also really interesting, and I think the advances she imagined are well within the realm of possibility given the time frame. All-in-all, this was a really fun read and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. :-)

Imagine a vampire detective and a werewolf detective working together to solve crimes. Intrigued? Well, that’s what you’ll get with the first book in Markie Madden’s The Undead Unit series, Fang and Claw. What I LikedLacey Anderson: She’s the vampire in the detective partnership, and she is one tough cookie. She battles serious trust issues since only she survived a massacre of her coven, a fact that has driven her to reclusiveness. However, she is one of the best detectives on the Dallas Police force and she demands respect from her coworkers.Colton Scarber: He’s Lacey’s partner and a werewolf. He’s a huge family guy, and the scenes where he’s with his family are my favorites. The mystery: This is a case of “who dunnit?” There are several twists and turns, and they kept me on the edge of my seat. The supernatural beings: In this novel’s world, supernatural beings are simply another race in the United States. They interact like humans, with humans. What I Didn’t Like I couldn’t read this book at night. It is so well-written and entertaining that it literally invaded my dreams. I dreamed that situations happening to the characters were happening to me! I wanted to read it at night, but knew I better not if I desired peaceful sleep. It was frustrating because I didn’t want to put down the book! If you are a fan of detective mysteries, vampire/werewolf lore, or you simply want a different, well-written work of literature, then I highly recommended Fang and Claw. You will not be disappointed.

The writing is excellent and I look forward to more from this author By Barbara Chioffi Colton and Lacey, one a wolf shifter, the other a vampire, begin their relationship as elite members of the newly created Undead Unit for a Texas police department. The search for a killer who leaves no trail leads to frustration and intrigue as the two become accustomed to each other. That journey is filled with bumps and potholes, and as you read, you experience the emotions that both are feeling. Colton and Lacey have intertwined pasts that threaten to destroy the working relationship. Will they be able to find the killer or will they abandon the partnership before their task is completed?I found the details of this story mesmerizing. Experiencing the emotions of both characters draws you into their developing relationship, not to mention the fascinating details of police work...DNA evidence, filed reports, and hours of leg work that it takes to gather information.Everything about this book will hold your attention. You are there with Colton and Lacey as they try to fit the pieces of the puzzle together. The writing is excellent and I look forward to more from this author. Well done, Ms. Madden. 5 stars
