Matt is a single shifter living in a house full of couples. It’s not that he begrudges his friends their happiness—especially after everything they’ve been through—but he wants someone for himself. He wants a mate. Living out in the Cornish countryside there seems little chance of him finding one. Thomas’s life has recently been changed for ever. Newly altered, he finds himself in danger as his mother, a prominent politician, works to put a stop to the mistreatment of altereds and bring those responsible to justice. To keep him safe, Thomas is sent to Cornwall where Matt and his friends offer him refuge until he can return to his home in London. Despite the circumstances surrounding his arrival, Thomas and Matt bond in a way neither of them were expecting. They struggle to come to terms with what this might mean for their future once the threat is eliminated.

Where paranormals were suspect and held for testing and experiments. Where humans could be altered to become "something" that was hated and feared by other humans.Thomas has just been altered. He's the son of a politician, a woman who is strongly advocating for the rights of altereds - trying to convince the public that they are no more a menace to society than anybody else. Through a series of various secret dealings he ends up staying with the group we've met before, in Cornwall. It's only supposed to be until his mother and her friends have worked out a way to get the proof they need that experimentation and changing humans is still being done.Matt has always known he was an anomaly - an altered who couldn't shift. At times it always made him feel left out and...useless, even though his best friend Daniel has never made him feel that way. He longs for a mate of his own, but when he talks to Daniel about it, his friend figures he is wanting a female. After all, Matt is straight. At least until he meets Thomas. In this book the problems with the scientists has got worse. The serum given to altereds has been adjusted and tweaked so that people can actually be forced to shift. That actually turns out to be useful at one point, but it is still a scary thing for anyone to have control over. What was well done is the tying up of all loose ends. There is a lot more politics in this last book of the series - evidence of corruption at a government level and so much more. The Epilogue was a beautiful indication of just how far everyone in the Cornwall estate had adapted and found, not only the love they were looking for, but a start on the road to societal acceptance.Reviewed by Liza for Sinfully...Addicted To All Male Romance

Review by Diane By Hearts On Fire Reviews As a summary of the series, in 1995, a lab created lycanthropy pathogen was put into the water supply in Great Britain, with varied results, some people were not affected at all, some became full shifter wolves, some partial, some gained the ability to see the altered, but could not shift themselves, while some were not affected at all. After the initial water contamination, the experiments and research were supposed to have stopped. However, that was not the case and as we found in The Altered 2, a private organization was funding research and people were “selected” as subjects. Matt, his bestfriends Daniel and Ash and their mates, Jordan and Sam, along with Keira and Charlie, escaped to the Cornwall countryside after destroying the lab that abducted Jordan and resulted in Ash becoming a shifter. This book is the next chapter of Matt’s story. The story is told from the alternating points of view of Matt and Thomas. As with the previous books, the author managed to make me cry, cheer and get a crick in my neck as I could hardly put the book down and this is definitely on my favorites of 2015 list! Not only do you have the unusual take on a shifter story, you have romance and the story even brings in political intrigue and action for the complete story! And it was all done with a good pace to the story while maintaining the point of the story, which was Matt and Thomas.Matt is the last of the group who is unmated, and there are definitely days he feels lonely as a result. They are creating apartments in the barn buildings on their property so they are not all in the same house, but the companionship/partnership he still feels is missing.Thomas is newly altered, mostly as a result of his mother, who is a high ranking politician who wants an investigation into altered who have gone missing as well as calling for equal human rights towards the altered. The group in Cornwall take him in to give him refuge and help him understand how to deal with what has happened to him and possibly help him acclimate to his new existence. An outcome no one saw coming was the idea that Thomas could be Matt’s mate, when all along, when everyone has thought he was straight all this time! If that is not enough of a dramatic twist, the encounters this small pack have had with those who would experiment and create more altered is not over and the threat may come right to the door to disrupt the calm they have created at their farm.As I said, the story has action, romance, intrigue, paranormal and politics – there even manages to be some humorous sides with the revelation Matt’s mate is not at all what he expected. Well paced with great characters you can connect to and cheer for. Had it not been for work, I would have had this read in one day as I did the last one because I enjoyed it so much! And I liked how the story ended for now, but was not all tied up neatly in all aspects, although I still very much enjoyed the outcome. As with the first two stories, I would recommend this for paranormal and fantasy fans since it is a balance between the two.

Considering the fact he now lives with 3 couples, he’s feeling more lonely than ever. But when they get a call to help hid someone, Matt’s life is about to take a surprising turn. Thomas never expected the work his politician mother did would ever be dangerous but when he’s turned into an altered as a threat to her, he realizes his life will never be the same. Especially when one of the altereds that are sheltering him turns out to be his mate. Unfortunately, Matt’s only been with women and Thomas is still trying to get used to being an altered. Will they be able to come to terms with the changes in their lives before the danger strikes again?Oh, how I LOVED this series! I just can’t get enough of these characters. It was awesome to get back to it and see Jordan, Daniel, Sam and Ash again. Matt and Thomas, though, may be my favorites. I loved that while Matt’s only ever been with women, he didn’t make a huge deal about having Thomas as a mate. I also really liked that their altereds fit each other and how easily Thomas was able to control his. It was interesting to see how the dynamics within Matt’s small group has changed. Everyone is so much closer now and there’s rarely any tensions left like there were in the first book and some in the second book.I absolutely loved this book but I’m still left wondering what happens now. Everything’s come out in the open but are things really going to change? Will altereds stop being discriminated against? Feared? At least for now hunted but I wanted a little more clarification on how the general population was taking altereds being so out there now.In the end, this was a phenomenal series. I adored, adored, adored Thomas and Matt’s story and I’m so glad we finally got Matt’s! I’m sad to see the series end (and hope Ms. Jacobs at least considers writing a few short stories so we can see these characters again) but it definitely ended on a high note. If you’re looking for a unique, intriguing series with some action that’s a bit different from the ordinary shifter story, definitely give this one a go because it’s not a series to miss!
