Though she has been cured of her simple-mindedness by the mysterious link she shares with her dragon friend, Talorc, Cerys is no longer safe in the home of her royal birth. With Talorc as her sole companion and protector, she must find a way to live in the wilds, where it seems that everyone they encounter wants to kill them. Ranging from the mountains of Gwynedd and into the even wilder northern lands of the savage and brutish Picts, they travel the length of post Roman Britannia in search of a safe haven where they might live their lives in peace. Amidst struggles for their very survival, and continually dogged by the nightmare figure of Hwch ddu Gwta, Cerys questions the dual mysteries of her father’s fate and the hints of Talorc’s treasure. Does he even have one? And if he does, might they use it to make their perilous lives just a bit easier? Unknown to Cerys though, there is an even deeper, darker secret lurking behind her fog-shrouded past…one which will change everything should it ever be revealed. ‘A Cold, White Home’ is the second installment in ‘The Dragon’s Treasure Trilogy.’

The story picks up after Cery’s escapes certain death with the help of her dragon. The story reminds me of one of my favorite childhood books, “Julie of the Wolves”. A girl must survive the Alaskan wilds dependent on living with and acting like a wolf. Cery’s is set on the same path except with a Welsh-Scottish flair! Her dragon does his best to feed her but, realizes people don’t usually eat the same way…though brave Cery’s give it a go, out of pure necessity. How would you be changed if you spent 3 years in a cave with a dragon? Would it change you mentally, physically and spiritually? Would you see, do, and say things you would have never done living in the civilized world? Cery’s leaves behind the little ‘autistic’ girl and grows into a strong confident woman . . . out in the wild! Guy Donovan brings this to life and with his written word makes you feel what she feels, her needs desires, pains, joys, etc. This is not a fast paced read, but a read you must settle in and savor. I recommend it to those who like to take life a little slower and smell the fish, feel the wolf pelt, hear the dragon talk. Denice Garrou fantasy, paranormal historical romance author.

This story was woven with great detail of the adventures of Cerys and Talorc with new characters you will grow to love with their honest and often funny exchanges and the other issues they face. The story brings you through another important struggle in the life of Cerys as she chooses to assimilate into a life with people versus a solitary life with a dragon no one is sure exists. There are so many well written scenes throughout that will leave you in awe and keep you revisiting them in your mind. This story is far more than a review can offer without giving too much away, but I am left impatiently waiting for the next release to find out what happens next.

The characters are so well developed and real, and the plot moved in a very intriguing direction. I'm ready to read book 3 and see what Cerys and Talorc are up against next.
