One loop should be left and here is one complete double crochet stitch

By VClifton Normally I wouldn't bother to write a negative review, but this set of books left me compelled to do so. I was greatly dismayed that the author didn't take her own photographs of the projects and stitches, but instead relied upon other peoples' photos. The very first stitch in the first book? The photo shows a knitted project, not the crochet one promised. All the photos are borrowed, though they do link to the source photos. Still, to write an instruction manual and not bother to shoot your own photos is sad.In book 2, it gets worse. The photos don't match the pattern instructions in the least! There is one in particular that stands out in my mind: There is an afghan that is really pretty (the photo) that consists of pretty motifs that are joined together, sort of a 6 pointed star or flower. The link provided with the photo doesn't even go to that particular pattern, but the written instructions in the book are for simple, single crochet blocks that are connected together. This was so disappointing. The covers look promising, but the actual books are rubbish. The written instructions are vague in places and don't have diagrams nor photos to help a beginning crocheter along the way. As a lifelong crocheter, this was a disappointing set of books. As a beginner, I can't imagine the frustration that would come from trying to understand the instructions. Please, get a sample of the book and see for yourself before buying... or borrow it on KU and preview it.

To get more detail you need to have your wifi on to access the actual pattern via the internet link. The patterns on the link aren't for beginners and may as well be in Arabic.I got excited to see a pattern for slippers but the link doesn't work so I couldn't get the "how to" part. I tried typing the link into my browser but it didn't work.Unfortunately this is not a user-friendly book for a beginner to learn to crochet.
