By Jackie Cooper Jessica Mazurkiewicz has brought together 63 traditional Nordic designs in this ageless coloring book, filled with the Folk art, Sweater, Rosemaling, Furniture ornamentation, Cross stitch, Quilt , and Painting designs and patterns that we have adorned our homes with, been given as gifts, and have worn on our clothing for generations.You will want to color every single illustration in this book; the images are playful, stylish, and imaginative in the Scandinavian style. You will find friendship hearts, peace birds, flowers, reindeer, vines, snowflakes, geometric designs and of course the Dala Horse all strategically placed within flowing, balanced, patterns of leaves, hearts, flowers and/or geometric shapes.When your thoughts are going in circles, keeping you from focusing and enjoying the right now. All markers leak through the pages so place two pieces of paper under the page you are coloring to prevent damage to the next page.3. Most of These timeless illustrations are intricate, so Colored Pencils, Gel Pens, or Ultra Fine markers are my color medium of choice for this book.4. The artwork is complete and balanced, you won’t start coloring a detail and suddenly your lines disappear. Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland make up the Nordic countries with Denmark, Norway and Sweden often being considered the Scandinavian Countries.

By srarback This is a nice book IF you like stencil patterns taken from woodwork (like cabinet doors and such) and patterns that look as if they are traced on a graph for sewing cross stitch. The "Stencil" patterns are pretty enough, but I don't like some of the "Cartoony" characters in them, and I don't like the graph-paper look of many of the other patterns. I am returning the book because it doesn't fit in with the style of design I like. But there ARE pretty designs in here for those whose taste is different from mine. One caution: as stencil designs that have large areas to fill in often require gradation or "ombre" effects, you should know this in advance if you aren't used to this technique.

Great Scandinavian Designs in the large coloring book By iiiireader This is a large and beautiful book of Scandinavia designs by artist Jessica Mazurkiewicz. The artwork is based on very traditional styles of design, including one of my favorites – cross stitch. The book has many more designs than the regular style of Creative Haven coloring book but the quality of the book is just the same. The designs include snowflakes, horses, flowers, birds, reindeer, traditional line designs, and hearts. It includes everything I think of when I think of Scandinavian folk art. Because of the style of art, some of the designs seem “choppy” when compared to other coloring books but it is the nature of the art and not the artist.There are 63 Scandinavian designs in this coloring book As with all of the Creative Haven books that I have used in the past, these are on a bright white page that is a fairly heavy stock. The designs are printed on one side of the page only and the pages are perforated to make it easy to remove from the book.All of my gel pens and markers bleed through on Creative Haven books and this book is no different. I use chipboard, card stock, or freezer paper under the page I am working on to keep the ink from leaking through.As a cross stitch designer, I find these designs especially fun to color. I am used to working in blocks with my own designs, so coloring them is fun, too. It is the perfect way to while away the late evening and relax before heading to sleep.
