No memory, half-dead and 100% in your face... Top Company scientist, Chen Jelinek, has committed suicide. Vatic, a half-alive empath with no memory of who or what he is, will die in six-hours if he can't find out why--or so the Company tells him--an 'added incentive to get the job done'. Our hero soon discovers he is one of the Skilled, a genetically enhanced human revered and despised in equal measure--a bloodhound with a terrifying past who'll stop at nothing in his pursuit of truth. He is unceremoniously dumped at the Company's most prestigious labs, where he meets the 'best-of-the-best'--scientists at the pinnacle of their profession--and the pompous and annoying facility Director, Anton Frederix. Vatic is not exactly welcomed with open arms--in fact, his presence is openly resented. It soon becomes apparent the over-indulged base experts are trying to hinder his investigation rather than give him the help he requires. But Vatic is not the type to give up easily, especially when his life depends on it. And just what is the mystery surrounding the black flowers found in the vast hydroponics domes, the alien mould cultivated by the lab's Director, and the base-wide system failure threatening everyone's lives? If Vatic knows one thing, it's that he's the guy to solve this, no matter how complicated or messed up it may be. With time running out, Vatic must use all of his genetically modified wits to survive. And the Skilled always get their guy... don't they?

A thrilling, action packed, fast paced futuristic Scifi Novel By Renee Spyrou I absolutely loved this fast paced, intriguing, suspenseful, Science-Fiction, Futuristic novel. From the get go the reader is thrust into the void along with Vatic, whom you can't help but like and sympathise with. You find yourself wanting more as the story progresses. I must say I was a little sad to see the story come to a close. This un-put-down-able book will have you reading late into the night, the well-developed characters are diverse, authentic and intriguing; you can't help but get sucked into the thrilling Sci-Fi ride. The author weaves a tale of espionage to rival many greats in this particular genre. The growing mystery behind what seems to be an open and closed suicide case becomes something more than a wild goose hunt, The company doesn't do things by half measures they have an ulterior motive for sending Vatic to their secret Laboratories. Vatic soon discovers the suicide investigation is a bogus witch hunt and the least of his problems. With time running out and Vatic's ailing health he is forced to look beyond the obvious and go with his gut instinct to solve the mystery. Vatic, is a complex and compelling character, with a dry, dark sense of humour. an elite soldier, one of the legendary skilled with powers beyond that of the ordinary average Joe, even in his deteriorated state he's impressive, so much so that you wonder what he'd be capable of if he weren't so messed up from his sudden reanimation from hyper sleep. I love Kev Heritage's style of writing, with great descriptives, intelligent plots and suspense to keep you enthralled, you certainly won't be disappointed, Vatic's tale has you guessing until the very end, I had my suspicions to who the Villain was, as everyone will, but you'll guess wrong. Congratulations Kev on a well thought out narrative and thank you for the opportunity to read Vatic before its release date, I look forward to reading more of Vatic's adventures or should I say misadventures.

He just is what he is. He has determination, grit, intelligence, benegeserit control over his body and, can read people. This makes him very interesting to follow and, a very valuable asset to the Company. He lives in the far future where technology is in the spirit of true science fiction and everything seems to be run by corporations. We are led through this futuristic environment by Vatic's sharp observational skills and his dry sense of humor. I'm left wanting to know more about him, his life and where he comes from. I hope there will be sequels. This is a fast paced story. If you like mysteries and surprise plot twists, you'll like this. Things make scientific sense here, too. As a science teacher I love that. The story takes a twisted, homicidal turn at the end but, it's not gross or horrific. Sorry if you're into that, maybe you can read that part a little more slowly and put some more imagination into it. I mostly just read through it quickly. The tender at heart should be able to handle it.I find "Vatic" to be a creative, imaginative and, well written. I happily recommend it to anyone who likes sci-fi, mysteries, comic-book style heroes or just fun.Enjoy!

Well written and easy-to-follow, Heritage does a great job creating a setting and characters that are distinct and relatable. Then the twists come, fast and furious, that are surprising yet believable.I can only post about that first 3/4 because to go further would destroy the fun twists. A scientist on a distant base on an asteroid turns up dead, presumably by suicide. But The Company, the owner of the base, its scientists, and all discoveries made there, thinks something is "off," and sends their best investigator, Vatic, to decide if this is indeed suicide or perhaps a murder. The majority of the novel is getting to know Vatic and the remaining scientists on the base. It reads like most any murder mystery, a real "who-done-it." But then the twists come and all is explained...with twists coming even until the last pages.I truly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes sci-fi or, in fact, any murder-mystery.(I must add that I was given this book as a gift in return for an honest review).
