Harm none, and be ready for zombies. In the little town of Brighton, Amelia’s practice of Wicca marks her as a curiosity both at home and at school. But Amelia can’t change what she is. Knowing how to see auras, heal, and cast spells comes naturally to her. Only Madame Knightly, the ancient matriarch and owner of Witch Wood Estate, to whom Amelia plays caretaker, doesn’t seem to mind. In fact, the crumbling old mansion is full of oddities. However, when modern treatments fail to make a dent in the flu outbreak sweeping the globe, those who once ridiculed her white witchcraft turn to Amelia for help. While her eucalyptus tinctures prove no more effective than western medicine, her spell-casting is another matter. The residents of Brighton soon depend on the very magic they once ridiculed to save their lives. **Witch Wood is a tie-in novella that compliments The Harvesting Series. It can be read alone or as part of the Harvesting series**

By Becky Stephens, Editor and Reviewer Melanie has delivered yet another exciting, well-written story to supplement The Harvesting series. It makes me giddy and impatient to see how these characters will mesh with the those we already know from the previous books in the series.Amelia is the most recent of Melanie's strong female heroines. I don't mean she can dead-lift twice her weight or anything like that. She is mentally, emotionally, and spiritually strong. What makes this protagonist memorable--no, extraordinary--is that she is a white witch. As a Wiccan, she promotes peace, protects her environment, and is at one with the Great Mother. Her ability to see and read auras comes in handy as well. Especially when the zombie-creating virus finally reaches her town.Because the virus has only just reached Amelia and the people in her town, there isn't a lot of zombie action, so don't read this novella anticipating an entire book of gore and violence. Read this novella because it is filled with good magic, earth and healing magic. Magic! What other reason could you have for picking up this five-star novella? While Witch Wood can be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend getting up to speed on the entire series. It will make the last page that much more appealing.

School hasn’t been closed yet, but it’s the last hold out in the county. Teenager, Amelia, is a white witch, one that has been ridiculed as far back as she can remember. She doesn’t know it, but when she leaves school that day, nothing will ever be the same for her or anyone else in her town. This is the second novella in the four stories that have been written so far, about this dystopian world, or the zombie apocalypse-if you want to call it that. The author has taken that premise and added all sorts of supernatural phenomenon and beings, even some that before I read these books, I had never heard of-despite all the paranormal books I read. When the humans start dying off, the supernatural beings that have been there all along, become much more present and visible to the surviving humans. Of course, humans don’t always know what they are seeing.Amelia works part time as a caretaker of an old lady that lives alone in a six story mansion called, Witch Wood, just outside of town. The house has a rock wall surrounding the land it sits on, with a locking gate. So when she gets there after school, she should be safe, at least for the weekend. But when her mother calls her the next day and is deathly ill, Amelia chooses to leave the safety of the mist shrouded home to check on her mom. The old lady, Madame Knightly, doesn’t want Amelia to leave, but knows she can’t stop her. The town Amelia left the night before is no longer peaceful, instead it’s full of angry people, burning buildings, and strange cannibalistic beings that are no longer really alive. What follows is an exciting thriller of a story, and ends up being quite the wild ride, albeit a short one. As in the previous installments, the author’s main characters are fully realized and the fact that it’s a novella doesn’t change that. It is a fairly short read, but one that was well worth the time(and purchase price)for me. These were new characters to the story, ones that hopefully will be more fully explored in the next book, so it’s not just a filler story, but one that is important to the whole.I highly recommend this, and the whole series to older young adults and adults. It’s billed as a standalone, but it really would make much more sense in the context of the whole series.

By MelHay *I requested to review a copy of this audiobook for an honest review from the author.Amelia has a white witch's touch. Those in school and around Brighton don't see a witch as kindly, but Amelia loves what she is. She can feel and see things are off, but she doesn't know what it is, starting with her mother's aura having specks of sticky black to it. When people come down with the flu Amelia will have to do more than mix her faithful herbs, she'll have to cast spells.Kristin gets to share her adverse vocal talents once again. She not only does different tones for different characters, but also gets to do a young girls voice then the teachers older and more stern voice. There is such a variety that it's amazing to see her slip into different personas. Kristin does a hurt, upset girl along with other voices. As with each book, this one brings a new element into the world of the harvesting. Magic. A witch. I couldn't quit listening. I knew what was going to result, but I was drawn to know for sure. What would happen and see what Amelia could do. She's special! Oh we discover with Amelia something new that she can do.Amelia is a white witch. It's sweet hearing her thank the trees and for pumpkins and many others. She's connected to nature. She even sees the aura of people, and tries to help all when sees dark spots by clearing them from their aura. She believes in using natural herbs to help heal and maintain good health. This mention of natural herbs brings into question something that's mentioned in Shadow Aspect, something that might have spread this disease.Oh where this story ends! Eee! I can't wait to follow on in the series. It's all coming together now. And I'm curious about Logan. I have a few thoughts on him, but I'll keep that to myself so you can experience him in your own thinking.
