I have never heard of Slip-Stitch Knitting before and I am totally fascinated by what you can achieve using this simple technique and only basic knitting stitches. My favourite designs are the Yahara Bay Shawl, Thunder Hollow Run Scarf and Glacial Ridge Scarf. The instructions are clearly written and include the Stitch Pattern Multiples for each design. Some of the patterns include Slip-Stitch Pattern Charts and some include a Schematic Drawing.12 beautiful designs are included for you to try!I received a sample copy of this book for free in exchange for a review, but all opinions are my own.

A solid introduction to slip stitches, but not the best By Georgina Toland A quick sample of slip-stitch patterns to immediately apply to easy scarves, shawls, and a few cowls. The color choices are wonky, but they show the stitches off well. If you need a fast knit for a gift, there are some good choices here. My faves are the bold Thunder Hollow Run pattern scarf, Token Creek scarf (with its ruffled edge), and the extra long & thin Quarry Hill Circle cowl with its key pattern. (NOTE: You may want to change the colors of the yarn on the Quarry Hill Circle cowl to avoid misunderstandings from the general public.) After you read this book, you will want to move to a more sophisticated slip-stitch book. I recommend The Art of Slip-Stitch Knitting: Techniques, Stitches, Projects, by Faina Goberstein & Simona Merchant-Dest.

By Amrita Ramnarine Slip Stitch Knits has 12 of the most gorgeous and creative scarf, cowl, and shawl patterns. Slip stitch knitting is such a fabulous technique for adding texture and pops of color to a pattern. The patterns in this book are very well written. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. The author gives some great tips to start and finish your projects like a pro and provides a ton of helpful information and resources. I want to try them all!

Gorgeous book with excellent instructions for developing quick, loose watercolor skills By LibbyLA This beautiful, inspirational book is exactly what I've been looking for! I'm not a journaling person, but I became intrigued by watercolor sketching after reading several Cloth Paper Scissors magazine articles by various contributors. I really liked the idea of small studies that captured the essence of whatever you're painting without trying to make it absolutely realistic. My detail-oriented, perfectionist nature gets in the way of me loosening up and just enjoying the freedom of creating simple art for my own pleasure so learning to work "loose" with watercolors in small sketchbooks is something I want to do.About three weeks ago, I got the ebook version of this book and Gina's "No Excuses Art Journaling," as well as Gina's two videos in a bundle from Interweave, and thoroughly enjoyed them. I even started collecting pictures from magazines as both books and videos recommended, but I just don't have the right types of magazines to get a lot of images I'd like to paint. As much as I enjoyed the ebook version, for me, this book is best enjoyed in paper form. I didn't really appreciate everything that's in it until my paper copy arrived yesterday. All I can say is, "Wow!" I am looking forward to working through the exercises using my Koi 24-color travel watercolor kit and waterbrushes because those are my tools of choice. The entire book is useful and all the exercises look like they will be fun to do.The best part of this book for me is the inspiration section. Each group of four pages includes a page of inspirational words, possible subjects, poetry, and quotes on the first lefthand page. There's an image (approximately 5 x 7) on the righthand page and a suggested color palette with color names in Gina's favorite paints. On the next pair of pages are an ink drawing of the photo subject on the left page and a watercolor version on the right page. The subjects include animals, birds, travel/landscape, and nature images. Your painting doesn't have to look exactly like Gina's, but if you get stuck or if you are trying to develop you interpretation skills, you can look at the inspiration photo and Gina's drawings and paintings to see what she did.I have had trouble finding magazine pictures that I wanted to paint, so having these 13 carefully-selected images to work from, as well as Gina's interpretations, will give me lots of practice images that I can use to start developing my skills.Gina's painting style really appeals to me because it lends itself to small images that can be completed in a short time, which is exactly what I want to learn to do.This is a book that covers painting techniques for sketching and journaling. If you are looking for something really technical, this is not the book for you. If you want a book that teaches you techniques so that you can relax and enjoy playing with shapes and colors and won't take you hours and days to complete, this is a great book. It even encourages those who aren't comfortable with drawing to trace images to color, so you don't even have to have good drawing skills to enjoy using water colors.

I got this book in the mail yesterday (thank you, Amazon!) and already have been diving in and loving it!I am an acrylic artist and I struggle big time with water color. But now, even though I've only gotten to page 38, I'm already playing with my water color set, discovering new techniques, and an ease with my brush that I didn't have before. It's an easy to follow, beautifully illustrated workbook for learners like me!

She likes the book very much. Easy to follow instructions and tips. She has painted several items from the book. She feels this book give her a good start on water painting. Very pleased with the book. There are some of her waterpaintings from the book included with this review.

In fact, I have read several books on the topic but this is by far the most enjoyable to read, especially seeing things from the English point of view. I would like to see a volume II where John gets into more detail about how he lists items, does he use auction, fixed price or a store, etc.

Great book on selling online By vermont reviewer John Silke describes what it is like utilizing the internet to try to make an income to pay a few of the expenses. It takes lots of time not only to find the items to sell, but to list, describe, pack and ship them. Customer service is priority one. Thanks so very much John for your insight into the world of online selling. I can relate as I have been involved off and on for over 30 years.

The Smithsonian has created a wonderful box with over 275 fact cards with 16 interesting categories. Curious learners can discover information about outer space, planet earth, dinosaurs, food, biomes and ecosystems and underwater animals to name of few. This great educational tool is specifically geared towards grades 2-3.Each category is shown on tabs for the cards. The Outer Space cards have colorful pictures on the front and when the card is flipped over it will show more pictures and a few facts about the topic. For example: the Galaxy card shows a vibrant colorful picture on the front and on the back there is a picture of a spiral, barred spiral and elliptical. The fact reads “The dust, gas, and billions of stars in a galaxy are all held together by the pull of gravity. Galaxies come in four shapes: spiral, elliptical, lenticular, and irregular. We live in the Milky Way, a spiral galaxy.” The cards referencing the U.S. Presidents is a larger section than the others. Here learners will find pictures and information about the first 44 presidents. World Wonders is another category readers will find interesting. Information about the Colosseum, Easter Island, Taj Mahal, and the Great Barrier Reef. The tab covering Biomes and Ecosystems will teach readers about the Sahara Desert and how temperatures during December to February at night can plunge to below freezing. This category will also cover oceans, fresh water and the Amazon rain forest. This handy portable tool would be a great addition to any home or school. There is just enough information on these cards to peak curiosity for further learning or as a quick reference to answer a basic question. Parents and teachers will approve and even enjoy this little box of information. Colorful photography and vibrant illustrations make this a fun tool for children and adults.

By Heather Johnson My daughter is only three-and-a-half years old, but she already loves looking at all the beautifully illustrated cards in the Smithsonian Everything You Need to Know sets. She flips through the cards, looking at the pictures, and then I read the facts aloud to her. The illustrations and text prompt her to ask many insightful questions. I have no doubt in my mind that she will continue to enjoy the cards as she grows older and begins to read on her own. I additionally like the compact format of these fact cards. The small flip-top box makes travelling with either or both sets easy. The cards are a fun activity to bring on a road trip. I highly recommend both grade levels of Smithsonian Everything You Need to Know. Note: I received two sets of cards in exchange for my honest opinion.

Arsène Lupin, gentleman-cambrioleur (French Edition), by Maurice Leblanc

Buckley Because I have family in France I enjoy reading Arsene Lupin, the fictional French second storey man and dashing jewel thief.Maurice Leblanc's novels are a literary precursor to Simenon's Maigret (in the sparingvocabulary and use of language). Certainly whoever dreamed up the Pink Panther had read Leblanc the night before. ML even has a clumsy detective who never quite gets his man. He was an admirer of Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, who is featured in a couple of Lupin stories. Despite their age, Leblanc's books are still very popular, in print and widely sold in french bookstores. If you REALLY like Lupin, Amazon sells only a few of the novels for Kindle, but they are almost all downloadable free from Gutenberg.

I wish there were more similar products or more from the same series on amazon. This is a worthwhile purchase. I would definitely recommend.

Her twin sister, Millay, was dealt a white card. A People. No Deathday. For twenty years, the sisters have lived different lives. In different places. In what was left of the world after the Chaos, mankind surrendered control to Dealer, a powerful computer that has kept society running for centuries. But truths don’t come easy. And everyone and everything is not as they appear. The mantra in following Dealer’s edicts: It is what it is. Review "A crackling science thriller in the vein of Crichton that mixes action with science fiction." Kirkus reference Bob Mayer's The Rock.

From the Author The inspiration for burners came to us, several years ago, while we were living in Chapel Hill, NC, shortly after the birth of our first grandson, Riley. We were thinking of his future and what things will be like as science changes things, especially with regards to genetics and computing; and also framing that in terms of what's happening now with wealth inequality. The core question for us was: What's the most valuable thing a person has? And the answer was TIME. Our second grandson, Haydn, was born earlier this year and things just clicked and we dove into the book. We hope you enjoyed this book and we are working hard to ensure follow-on books are each published less three months after each one.  Join us for the ride and feel free to leave reviews (important) and email us at bobmayer@coolgus.com with comments, questions, and suggestions. You, the reader, are the most important person in publishing!

About the Author Bob Mayer, born in the Bronx, went to West Point, served in the Special Forces and traveled the world. He is the NYT's bestselling author of over 60 books. Deb Cavanaugh has worked with many NYT's bestsellers, including a #1 author; their first project together was nominated for both an Edgar and an Agatha award. This is her first book with her husband Bob Mayer.

10 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Great idea but terrible writing and lack of ending sinks it. By Woolfhound I really wanted to like this more, because the story is really interesting and well paced, but the terrible writing was a constant irritation. I get the feeling the author thinks that writing in sentence fragments makes things edgier, but it doesn't work; it just feels like bad writing. The story kept me reading on a lazy weekend day I'm not trending through more bad prose to find out what happens next.Speaking of which: this is nit the first book in a series. It's part of a book that is apparently being published in serial form. It has no ending whatsoever; it just stops at a crucial point. Pretty disrespectful to readers.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. It definitely is. By Dalice Peterson “It is what it is.” A hymn to fatalism and hopelessness? Or resignation? Once I was thinking about that phrase, I noticed it being used all the time in ordinary conversations. Scary. Mayer and Cavanaugh have done an excellent job of world building in this story. From the use of "burner speak" to the dichotomy between the classes, the story stayed consistent, and believe me, chilling. The horrors of the world were clearly possible human reactions to the problems they faced, and that’s chilling too. No one in this story was who they appeared to be (except maybe Ace the dog) but they were still clearly defined and I ended up caring about what happened to them. There’s more to this story; stay tuned.I received a copy of ‘burners’ for an honest review, so it is what it is.

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. I love finding a book that I just can't put down By Joseph I love finding a book that I just can't put down. Burners started off a bit slowly, as the characters and background are introduced. As the plot unfolds, I found myself looking for an excuse to read "just one more chapter". By the end of the book, I could not put it down. While the author has a military background and has written many military themed books, I always felt his best work was his Science Fiction. If you have read his Area 51 series, you know what I mean. His Wife co-authored this book, and I have a feeling she might be responsible for making some of the female characters in the book so three demensional. I have read some books in the past where the story was good, but the characters were somewhat forgettable. Burners is one of those books where, after you finish it, you feel you actually knew some of the characters. The Burners world is an interesting and puzzling place, slowly but surely revealing its secrets to the reader.I read a lot, and lately, I have been having trouble finding a book I just can't put down. Burners is one of the few that I could not put down, and may even reread. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
