If you are serious about making the necessary changes By Jennifer Having been a child of hoarders, I never could understand why some people feel the need to hold onto so much useless junk for dear life, and why is it that when you are at most major retailers in the "housewares" section, you see so many storage containers that are practically big enough for a person to sleep in? Well, I may have found my answer in Sydney Song's nifty ebook....from the minute you compare the simplistic beauty of a Japanese living/family room to that of the "typical" Western looking room, it's no surprise why TV reality shows that talk about extreme obsessive hoarding cases give the US a bad name when it comes to reckless consumerism. I've always been one to admire Oriental furnishings with their simplistic elegance...the absence of fripperies, but none of that Spartan sterility that is so common in strip malls or office buildings over here.If you are really serious about making the lifestyle changes necessary...and by that, entirely serious, not just sort-of, or ambiguous....this book is a great start. From ways to structure your de-cluttering campaign so as not to be overwhelmed, to ways to get your personal "sentimentalism" of material things under tight rein...I especially love the author's suggestion to the tune of "Take a picture, it will last longer.." that I remember from a similar book I read recently. Amen to that...It's what I have done with a bunch of my artwork. And I have sold many old collectibles on eBay so I know I have managed to go above and beyond that sentimental fixation that locks us into that cluttered world that we are sadly in denial of. Yes, change is scary, but this is one change that can empower you like never before. Not a lot of "Feng Shui" talk-if any-but that is a topic easily found in other books as it is a broad topic in need of its own book as opposed to chapter. A fairly worthwhile read, overall.

I really enjoyed how it encouraged me to simplify my home, my belongings, and my life. The benefits of decluttering were explained in such a way to make them desirable for anyone. The author’s voice was refreshing and entertaining. Such an easy and fun read.I liked how there were actionable recommendations for the reader to implement now. Instead of philosophizing about the principles of Zen, Sydney Song gets to the point of how I can change. The suggestions in “Decluttering” were simple and doable.I especially liked the section on dealing with emotional clutter. While I’m not a pack rat, I do hold on to things for sentimental reasons. Which leads to additional things and junk I really don’t need, but have trouble throwing out. But the suggestion to “share the love” makes it easier to deal with these memorable knick-knacks.I do wish there could be a few more pictures. But other than that, this is a book we all need.
