A tad hard to follow but worth the effort By Joyce Ronquillo I got a copy of this book from my library which must have received it early.This starts in Paris with James badly injured and in a coma. Lydia arrives, realizes it was a vampire attack and asks Don Simon to help. Lydia does not know why James is in Paris having assumed it was because of his spy bosses, this being the start of WWI, but not sure how the vampires figure in. If you've read the previous books you know how they could be involved. This plays out like a spy story in the vein of Le Carre. We see what happened through the fever dreams of James and follow Lydia and Ysidro as they try to understand what happened. Then things get interesting. We begin to see past events in Don Simon's life through James' dreams. This is both enlightening and pertinent but because this information comes in dream form it is garbled in time and place so the reader must pay attention. By the end, I had guessed what was happening and yet was surprised by its form. I loved learning more about Don Simon's past.

While I have enjoyed the Lydia Asher novels, such as this one, I very much miss James being the "star". I feel like we get the same thing over and over with the Lydia stories and would love another lengthy novel like "Those Who Hunt the Night". I get it that Lydia loves both Simon and James and is too vain to wear her glasses. Some departure from the last few installations of this series and a return to the harder hitting and longer story would be most welcome. I will still continue to buy them as they come out regardless as the books are always well written and fun, just not as much fun as the earlier works in my opinion. Still, 3 stars...

My quibble is she sometimes gives her female lead a reduced role. Not this time. James has disappeared and is in trouble; his wife has to find him and, incidentally, nurse him back to health--all in the shadow of the German invasion of France circa WW1. I like the background history, a strength of the author (without going too far & boring the reader).This is part of her vampire series, so plenty for the "dark" folks out there to enjoy.

"Drugstore Apocalypse" is a story of retail management and how it relates to the end of the world. Kenny Harper languishes in service industry hell as the manager of the American Dime and Drug in Hanover, S.C. His assistant, Alex McNair, has a contempt for upper management that borders on the insane. The head cashier, Dennis Adams, converses with an imaginary friend who tells him to kill people. Heather Bonaparte, the district manager, institutes unrealistic and often changing policies and procedures which continually set the management team on a course to failure. It doesn’t help that the aliens land behind the store early one morning while Kenny and Alex are unloading the weekly truck delivery causing a late entry of the daily deposit total into the computer resulting in a write-up for Kenny. Why the aliens abduct a box of ping pong balls, nobody knows. The team finds themselves in the middle of a nuclear bomb plot and a religious riot in the parking lot while all the time giving excellent customer service. Then, there’s that wrinkled piece of duct tape on the mirrored column on aisle fourteen. The one with the message written in black marker, “Do Not Remove. EVER!” Kenny, Alex, and Dennis slowly realize that the American Dime and Drug on Abelia Street is ground zero for the apocalypse and struggle to return from a mad, strange trip to the end of civilization where, at least, there are no coupons.

It gave me an inside view of what it's like to really work inside a drug store (omg it would drive me insane) he did such an amazing job of describing the ins and outs, the coupons, the customers, the incredible boredom, drama, bulls*** and personalities of the drug store! Well done! plus, the book had some serious hilarious moments (laugh out loud) then add the whole alien/zombie and mix in some crazy genie wishes (so so twisty) and it had me wanting to read more. Actually I have a tendency to read thru quickly just to see how it ends, I know I'll be reading it again in a few weeks to go over the details ( they are important) on the ending.

By E.Gilkerson If you have ever worked in a corporate ran retail store, especially in a small town, you will feel right at home in this book. The employees are very realistic and you get drawn into many aspects of their lives. The sci-fi aspects of the book make you think and are well written. This book is lace with ironies and vague references to real life people, if you catch them. I really enjoyed taking this journey with the employees of the drugstore.

About the Author

James O. Aldrich (Doctor of Public Administration, University of Laverne) is a retired lecturer on statistics and research methods at California State University, Northridge. He has served as the principal investigator and co-director of a National Cancer Institute research project. He held the appointment of Instructor   in the Department of Pathology at the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He has served on various committees for the Los Angeles chapter of the American Statistical Association and has also taught biostatistics, epidemiology, social statistics, and research methods courses for 20 years. The primary statistical software used for his coursework has been SPSS. Sage recently published (2013) Building SPSS Graphs to Understand Data co-authored with Hilda M. Rodriguez.

James B. Cunningham (PhD in Science Education, Syracuse University) is Professor Emeritus of Science and Computer Education and former chair of the Department of Secondary Education at California State University, Northridge. Formerly chair of the Departments of Science and Mathematics in Washington State high schools, he is author of Teaching Metrics Simplified and co-author of BASIC for Teachers, Authoring Educational Software, Hands-On Physics Activities With Real-Life Applications, and Hands-On Chemistry Activities With Real-Life Applications. He used SPSS extensively during his tenure as director of the Credential Evaluation Unit in the College of Education. He is currently a Fellow in the Center for Teaching and Learning at California State University, Northridge.

Thompson SPSS is a marvelous tool, but it's only as powerful as the user's knowledge and understanding of it. And because I didn't understand the true depth of this tool, I was not using it to its full potential. Then I got this book, by Aldrich and Cunningham, and after cruising through just one chapter, I already knew so much more. After having gone through the whole book, chapter by chapter, I feel like I've entered a whole new world of handling data and statistics. The great thing about this book is that it is easy to read and understand, and the visual elements help out a lot. I'd highly recommend it.

So I got this book and followed each chapter and did all the exercises and the review exercises and it has been fantastic and actually a little fun. It has completely changed my attitude toward working with large data sets.

By Rikki Decoupage is the art of decorating surfaces by applying paper cutouts and then coating with several layers of lacquer or varnish finish and shares several similarities with scrapbooking. And this attracted me to the book right away.I have to say, this is quite an interesting read. It touches on a lot of relevant things about Decoupage like its history, how to select a substrate where you can apply Decoupage on, how to gather the materials you will need, how to master the process, and so much more. Since I am looking for a new and relaxing hobby along this line, I’d definitely give this book a try.

The reason I got this book was to learn how to make my own gifts to give to people because it will be more personal (and cheaper!) I enjoyed the book and it does teach you how to make your first decoupage piece but the reason I only gave it fours stars it that it doesnt have images. Overall, good and very useful book though

I've decided to name all my critters and I am going to frame them and make a gallery wall in my bonus room. You can see Buck below. He's a young and somewhat naive fellow but he has a good attitude and a keen sense of carefree style. His big brother, Ben, and his cousin Stout, are also featured in this book.But in all seriousness it's a really fun book. Yes the pages are a little thin but you can always copy it onto thicker paper or glue it to stock paper before you frame. It's my most favorite coloring book ever!! Would like to get the female book next.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Maybe more than you want to know about refrigeration, but an engaging, if somewhat superficial history. By lyndonbrecht This is an interesting read, but the book strikes me as not well organized. Gantz writes well and with enthusiasm, but he cobbles together three themes--the history of and impact of refrigeration, the history of specific appliance development and product design. The last quarter of the book seems to be to be mostly about product design rather than a more detailed consideration of, say, air conditioning technology. I think it would be a better book if these were separated out into sections, perhaps general history, history and development of specific technologies and design.There are lots of illustrations that cover some of the inventors, and many products from specific decades that help his descriptions become clearer.Among the interesting details are older folk technologies for cooling, and that the classical Greeks and Romans enjoyed snow and ice cooled foods, preserving ice in insulated structures (used loosely--an insulated hole in the ground or a modified cave would work). The business of insulated ice so as to make it available in warm seasons was far more widespread and older than I had known. I knew about Yankee merchants selling ice in places like Havana and New Orleans. The ice trade itself in the US alone was large, using machines to make ice then delivered by horse-drawn wagons seems ironic, but 8 million tons of ice was in the industry in the US in 1880, using a wild variety of ice boxes.The story of the development of ice-making, refrigerating and air conditioning technologies dominates the latter portion of the book. It's also an interesting example of technologies merging. Some big cooling systems were steam-powered, but the rather quick electrification of the US after 1900 fed into other systems, including powering smaller and therefore home-usable systems. In 1907 8% of US homes were wired for electricity, 16% by 1912 and 35% by 1920. DC and AC current systems vied for awhile, and it took some time to develop a market system--electricity suppliers sold home appliances to increase sales of their energy product, for example.There's lots more. The book gets slow in spots, but the author's enthusiasm never flags. Chapter 9 discusses changes in regulation and climate change and what it means for the industries, and the challenges that are offered by need for efficiency and reduced pollution. Chapter 10 is something of an anticlimax, "Snow and Ice Redux," which points out winter sports, skiing, iceboating, ice hotels, ice sculpture and more.

The designs are absolutely fabulous. They are all very detailed so if you do not like to spend a lot of time on one drawing this coloring book is not for you. I love the selection of shoes, there's a reason why I bought a SHOE coloring book! It may be saving me money on buying shoes, wink wink. I've always wanted to design my own shoes so this gives me the opportunity to at least create the color designs. The paper is a OK quality, I have other coloring books with thicker bond paper. I don't like all of the designs, but I don't like all the shoes in the world so it's not a big deal to me. I tore out the designs I don't like, and gave them to a friend - win/win situation. Overall it's a good adult coloring book for the price.

You don't always like ALL the pages in a coloring book, but this one has enough pages that I like to make my money worth. The paper quality is not too great but is not bad.

Arena Well, if there's anything ALMOST as good as buying shoes, it most DEFINITELY has to be coloring shoes in every conceivable manner to make them truly, madly, deeply your own! What more can I say? Here are two passions of mine... the colorful meditation of artistic expression and, you know it, SHOES! The best part? This book is guaranteed to fit and definitely won't hurt at the end of the day! Love it. Love the very idea of it. Yes!

Iles I bought this as a gift for my mother, who is an Alzheimer's patient and is not longer able to successfully read, knit, or any of the other hobbies she once enjoyed so much. She uses it every day and I will definitely be looking for more!I do notice that she is primarily focusing on the images that have large fields to color. The more detailed pictures with tiny leaves, etc. must be hard for her to see and she is skipping over those. I imagine that other residents who have better vision than she does may wind up completing those pages. If your Alzheimer's loved one was once a "doodler" like my Mom, I encourage you to try this as an activity for them.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. My all-time favorite adult coloring book so far (and I own quite a few!) By Mz. Priz I love, love, love the designs in this coloring book!! I can sit happily for hours coloring the pages in this book. It features lots of florals with a few birds tossed in here and there. The square pages seem to be just the right size for me. I use Raffine colored pencils and the pages in this book take the color very nicely. The pages are the perfect thickness with just a tiny bit of "tack" to them, which helps when blending colors. This is my all-time favorite adult coloring book so far (and I own quite a few!)

You have all your equipment and ingredients in this book to make beer in an easy way. The process of home brewing is very simple and inexpensive. What ingredients we need to make beer like water, grains, hops, yeast etc. are well described in this book. If you have no experience with this, you will find the most interesting thing in this book. You can enjoy the different color, flavor, aroma and alcohol content but the instructions in this book will train you the basic recipe. Depending on your personal bitter preference, you can choose the needed essentials. If you like to learn the beer recipe, you can take a look at this book before beginning the beer recipe. This is a very little book about the home brewing with informative idea. You will get top tip at the beginning of every chapter where some precautionary information is provided with the advice.

We are fond of drinking beer that we can already appreciate the different tastes of different kinds of beers, so when I saw this book, I actually had an idea, why not make our own beer. The book is awesome - like all the books in the Arsene Lupin series.However - it's printed at font size 8 or 9. So it's incredibly difficult to read. I'm young and with good eyes so it was a pain reading it but i coped. But really - DO NOT buy this particular copy of the book. I've never seen a book printed with such a small font in my entire life.

Very good text just needs improved illustrations, EBM statistics, and updated special tests, CPRs, and clusters By Richard Zaruba This is actually a very good text with the potential to be great. Most complete coverage of regional evaluation I have found in a single text. This text includes: Anatomical overview, observations, palpation, posture, gait, ROM, overpressure, MMT, neurotension, dermatomes, peripheral nerve patterns, trigger points with referral, internal organ referral. I have four issues that if addressed would make this the best text available:1) They improved some of the illustrations between this edition and the last one, however others were not and make hard to correctly perform the technique such as the upper limb neurotension tests. Clear illustations or photographs would greatly enhance this area.2) Include the EBM statistics for the testing. This could easily be accomplished in a table format added in the appropriate area of the chapters.3) Several of the special tests used in this text are out of date, such as Homan's for DVTs, this should be updated to Well's criteria for DVTs has been shown to be significantly more reliable. Along with the inclusion of CPRs for common conditiond such as radiculopathy or carpal tunnel.4) Inclusion of basic differential diagnosis questions and signs for referral from internal organs.As I said previously, this is a very good text with the potential to be great.
