Ever since he joined Omega Force, Captain Jason Burke has lived with the underlying fear that one day Earth would be discovered. His desire to keep Earth's existence and location a secret has driven him to extremes, and kept him far away from his homeworld for a long time. But now Jason's greatest fear is realized, and a fleet of alien ships has attacked his planet. Omega Force rushes to Earth's defense, but the ships are like none they've ever encountered, and employ weapons they have no defense for. Will their lone gunship be able to slug it out with the unknown fleet holding the planet hostage? Or will this be a one-way trip for the crew of the Phoenix?

The first two were very good, but this one takes the story and the characters to a whole new wonderful level. I don't remember the last sci-fi story I've read that made me feel so many real emotions. The humor in the dialog is masterful and well placed. The fight scenes are paced just right and don't get boring or repetitive. The romance isn't "in your face" but is poignant.I really love that there aren't three or four parallel plots, the story always remains focused on the main character with just a few very short diversions to a different point of view. This makes it much easier to get fully immersed in the story. Also, this is a very cleanly edited novel with very few typos. As a dyslexic reader, hitting a typo often feels like hitting a wall -- full stop. Many writers publish their books with horrific typos. This one is almost perfectly clean (just a few typos here and there). To me, this means a lot, as the story just flows and flows. Thanks, Joshua, for taking the time to focus on this.I really hope the series continues and I look forward to the next one.

You can't go home again By Amazon Customer The third installment of Mr. Dalzelle's new space opera keeps delivering and showcasing why self-published books don't mean you have to give up on quality entertainment. I have been enjoying the series quite a bit and the only think keeping me from giving a 5-star rating is that much of the action is quite standard. I tend to give 5 stars to those books that have that "something extra" that sets them apart and we have glimpses that Mr. Dalzelle is capable of such it just hasn't quite appeared yet. This book has decided to wrap up and give us a clear break between Jason, the Phoenix, their crew and their past. Jason has successfully returned to earth and wrapped up all lingering ties. The successful conclusion between the Phoenix and Deetz means that the series is now looking ahead rather than worrying about items behind them. It seems that the Phoenix and Omega Force will successfully move into the galactic stage together with Cristoff's group.I will say that we have quite a bit of clues as to how important the Phoenix and Omega Force might start to become and I for one can't wait for the ride.I will say that in general I'm a little disappointed in the galactic community as a whole that in general we constantly seethe ConFed on the defensive. The initial story left me with the impression that the ConFed was quite a powerful entity but it seems more and more like a paper tiger. While that is quite good for generating possible story-lines and its understandable that multiple alien civilizations wouldn't merge and coordinate all that successfully I still would think that certain parts of it would be quite dedicated to "law and order" or "stability" and they would be the core faction that gives the ConFed their momentum. I think that we haven't quite seen everything that the ConFed might be or has in reserve because the Phoenix operates more on the fringes than anything and I for one want a glimpse of the juggernaut.I think we now have a glimpse of everyone's backstory except for Lucky but I expect that we will continue to learn that the crew might just be quite exceptional.Once again I can't wait for more and will be eagerly await book 4 and so on.gallandro

The reason I rate this book as a dud was because it was like a space love affair, not like the two previous books. And with the "aliens" arrival on Earth chasing the Deetz synth, it became one big cluster fug. With the ex-girlfriend who was a pushy, jealous earthling who only cared about what she wanted, she made this book seem selfish. She also constantly distracted the captain who neatly killed his whole crew multiple times as he second guessed his decisions and arrogantly flew right into the trap time and time again. It is why the special ops military do not allow these types of relationships anywhere near them! Cuz thinking with your anatomy will get your team killed. But his ex-girlfriend didn't care because she demanded whatever she wanted and when told no, she still didn't care, like a spoiled brat. But since I bought this book thinking that it would be as adventurous, fun with lots of laughter, I read through it while barely skimming through nearly half the book with the final battle being the only good part!I would not recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed the first two books. I would recommend it to anyone who likes space love affairs with a demanding, arrogant, pushy jealous female who only cares about what she wants... Only at the end does she show some understanding, but it is a little too late.....Omega Force Dud!
