3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Missing very important information By Ian M The fundamental difference between node and all other popular web languages is the asynchronous approach. This book merely acknowledges this concept and doesn't spend any time explaining the event loop, call stack, or key differences for people who are already well versed in other languages. There is no discussion of promises on the server side and no mention of design patterns specific to the callback-happy world of node.Further, this book spends a lot of time explaining how to do things the hard way. It demonstrates terribly messy page controllers and routers that will quickly grow to unsustainable size without once mentioning industry standard tools such as Express that are meant to avoid these problems. If you follow this book's example, you'll end up with a bloated but well archtected app that wastes lots of code space and is a nightmare to maintain.Finally, the book suffers several small grammatical errors. Normally, I wouldn't note this, but in a technical manual non-parsing sentences can lead to misinterpretation.It is also worth noting that this book does not once mention ES6 or any of the major changes that are now supported.I recommend this book only to people who already understand node well but want a guided approach to solving some core concepts they may have missed such as TDD, restful design, or real-time chat.

Great for a started By Alexander Frenkel This is a great book, for somebody who is starting his first application in Node.JS. it explains in detail how to start your own application, how Node.JS works and simple brings you into the world of Node.JS which is diferent from a standart request/thread application we where used to produce in PHP or ASP.

The book helps you a lot in learning how to focus well and how to overcome distractions. The exercises to improve your focus is well written and easy to follow. I found it fascinating on how it teaches you the techniques to learning a language. It was an interesting read.

I have read many books on the subject and by far this is the best. It's simple and concise. All you have to do is immediately start practicing these techniques. This book is very well organized, which facilitates its understanding and memorization. It is a fascinating read and is one of those books that I keep referring back to. After reading several books on memory this one took a different approach and I found it the most helpful.

By MrClean Ok, I'm hooked, plus I don't want Stephen King to get all the five star reviews & after all you need to get your prosthetic feet & cabbage patch doll. FYI readers, you'll need to read this books after ending short story to figure out what the heck I'm talking about. Oh, and for the record, T.J. & Bobby, King hasn't written even a 1 star book since like the 80`s. (Now Koontz is a different story imo). Anyways, keep em coming & I'll keep a reading......don't wait too long as I'm old and I'd like to see this series end before I do.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. great story By TommyMcG Really enjoying this series, it's very different than your normal zombie genre. The plot takes place far into the future on the outskirts of a forest far from the "ancient" city and "river" that never ends (ocean). A small group of people manage to survive a plague and start a new civilization outside of these woods. Where it went wrong socially and morally would make for an interesting book. These survivors reproduced and several hundred years later thousands of people live in a type of dreary pre-victorian type townships. Only scholars are allowed to read, ministers burn people alive for minor offences and a terrifying General rules everything behind the scenes. The authors do an excellent job in keeping with the story lines and character development. Keep in mind these characters have zero tech and zero comforts. Women are kept around for menial tasks and child bearing. I found myself fully enveloped in the story. At one point I found my myself sympathising with a character because of some simple situation that could be resolved within a minute in this day and age but because of having not much more than the clothes on his back or the ability for critical thinking he is absolutely stuck in his predicament. I stopped reading at this point and thought to myself I have been completely pulled in by fantastic story telling/writing. This duo team team of writers are doing an amazing job...even keeping with the way characters speak...never deviating. It's so interesting how the writers perceive our future and that it's regressed 400 years in the past. This is a good series. Very interesting. Do yourself a favor and buy this series.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Well Worth Reading By Austintacious This is Book 3 of a series and each book gets better. I highly recommend you read books 1 and 2 first, although there is a brief synopsis of both previous books at the beginning of this one. The story is set in 300 years post-apocalyptic Earth, complete with virus-laden people who have turned into what are considered demons. Our history, technology, and social norms are completely lost to these survivors. The characters are gritty and often unlikable, but that is what creates the setting for the emotional and sometimes physical battles that play out in these stories. There is no single protagonist; rather, there are a handful of individuals whose lives are inexplicably intertwined with each other, although the reasons have not yet necessarily come to light. I find myself rooting for the underdogs, cheering when the evil characters get their comeuppance, and eagerly awaiting the next book in this series. T.W. Piperbrook and Bobby Adair make an excellent writing team.

This book has just about everything you need to know about herbs, It teaches you how to use the herbs in everyday cooking. Hopefully the herbs I have will finally survive through the winter with the tips I got from here.

It gives detailed instructions and uses for the top 10 best herbs for the home herb gardener. I found this a really good resource as I start my own herb planter on my balcony.I recommend it!

About the Author

Seong-Hoon Yoon is a senior staff engineer of Nalco, an Ecolab company, located in Illinois, USA, where he has served since 2001. He received his BS, MS, and PhD degrees in chemical technology from Seoul National University in 1991, 1994, and 1998, respectively. Dr. Yoon was a research engineer at the LG group in Seoul, Korea, before joining Nalco. Throughout his career, Dr. Yoon has been dedicated to advancing water treatment processes with an emphasis on membrane separation. His interests include water reuse and recycle; chemical, biological, and physical water treatment; gas transfer membranes; and information and communication technologies for remote monitoring and control.

Best MBR book to date By WMorrision Membrane Bioreactor Processes: Principles and Applications (Advances in Water and Wastewater Transport and Treatment)I am a field engineer working for a water related service company. I bought this book after reading the editorial reviews . As reviewer said, it was indeed well written book with great details on MBR technology. This book provides a great deal of information on the principles of membrane filtration and membrane module design, which are hardly found in other MBR books I have, It is very impressive that the author explains why MBR is operated at the current conditions based on the theory and his experiences. I haven't read all of the contents, but I am exited to have this book that will be my reference book for the years to come.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Best yet in the Quarters series By Katherine Briggs This book picks up almost where it's predecessor ("Fifth Quarter") left off. Vree and Gyhard have left the Empire and traveled to Shkoder in the hopes that a young and promising healer named Magda can find Gyhard a body without killing someone to claim it. If Gyhard ever kills again he will immediately come up under charges and be executed. Our initial conflict comes with with a jealous and emotionally wounded Bannon who will go through any length to steal back the life he and Vree shared up until Gov. Aralt's appearance."No Quarter" finally intermingles the plot lines of the characters from "Sing the Four Quarters" and those of "Fifth Quarter" as we meet a grown up Gerek and his little sister, Magda who are charged of taking care of a homesick Vree and a nervous Gyhard. Gerek has grown up to be a dashing romantic, while Magda inherited an iron will and streak of independence not uncommon in her family.While the bards of Shkoder are marveling over Vree and Gyhard's "two kigh in one body" news comes in that points toward a reemergence of the walking dead, and therefore of Kars. Vree/Gyhard and Magda go off to finally put a stop to him, but they're not alone as Bannon and Gerek are quickly sent off to retrieve them.All in all this book was so much fun to read! It may have used a well-worn plot line (oops we didn't kill *insert problem character here* the first time, but we'll get 'em now!), but the bits and pieces that Huff added to it to make it her own completely distance it from anything approaching banality. Huff's story is lively and engaging. I found Bannon's immature reactions in "Fifth Quarter" annoying at best, and downright painful to read at others. Luckily Vree/Gyhard are the main characters in this story, and Bannon gets to grow up a little towards the end. Huff chose wisely when she made the semi-romantic couple the lead characters for this book as they both have interesting backstories to deal with and plenty of room and need to grow as people.The ending is a bit contrived, but the feeling of resolution it gives makes that small fact easy to overlook. I highly recommend this book as a lively, character driven fantasy novel to enjoy during a weekend read. It's best in one long sitting rather than multiple shorter ones as the sense of urgency is dimmed when you pick it up and put it down over and over.

Tanya Huff gives us a lot of action, suspense, and different forms of love: romantic, sibling-love, friendship, and love twisted by madness & bitterness. The writing is deep without being overtly philosophical. No Quarter is a fast-paced, edgy story about Gyhard, a man without a body of his own, sharing the flesh of Vree, the woman he loves. Vree is a former assassin, pursued by her brother, who wishes them to return to the army--and who wishes to kill Gyhard. And in the middle of this turmoil, an ancient, insane murderer walks, raising the dead around him. The old man still loves Gyhard, but the only way he could get Gyhard to stay with him would be to kill Gyhard and Sing his living kigh back into his dead body...A truly excellent read.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Better than Fifth Quarter!!? By E. Sills I didn't think it was possible for Tanya Huff to write a book better than Fifth Quarter. Boy, was I wrong. This book was outstanding. End of story. Buy it, read it, enjoy it, read it again! The thing I like best about this book and Tanya Huff's style in general is that her characters are always well developed and very believable. And they all grow. Vree and Gyhard's relationship really develops in this book and by the end you are very satisfied. Don't, of course, read No Quarter until you've read Fifth Quarter, which is equally compelling.
