About the Author Heather Perrywinkle Smith was born and raised in the hills outside of Garberville, California. This story started in a flash of inspiration.   I was on my way home from a life changing and uplifting trip to New Zealand. It was in the first few hours of the long flight home that I suddenly had a scenario run through my head. Vivid, clear and embodying more than just the images. It was a visceral, energetic scene unfolding in my minds eye. I thought to myself, "This would be a great story" and instead of letting it go at that, I actually wrote it all down. This became the opening scene to this book "The Pharaoh's Builders!" ​ Just as the first scene unfolded with a life of its own, so too did the rest of the book. I would write when it was easy, when it was fun and when it had that energy of the first moment of conception.    The charactors or relationship between charactors and the events that were to unfold sometimes only in a few words, sometimes the entire scene, sometimes without words, just a sense of an energy not yet actualized. I played with it, I asked it to reveal what it would like to be.    Having never written a novel before and having no pre-conceived notion of the right or wrong way to procede I continued to follow whatever showed up, as the joy of it for me. I would write a few sentences on my iPhone, I would write for hours on my laptop, I would scribble notes on a napkin...this has been a playful creation that I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed writing!

I started reading it during Thanksgiving, and immediately I started to love the magic in the world that exists in this novel. This book feels like an invitation to a new, amazing world. Almost as if the magic in the book is an actually possibility on earth! Personally I sometimes feel like the world is caving in on my head, and this book also invited me to know that what occasionally looks like a tunnel to me does have a light at the end if I'm willing to go in that direction.I'm so grateful for the book for coming to me in a time where every day it felt like a burden to get up out of bed and even leave the room. Thank you Heather Smith. Thank you so much for an joyful and wonderful read that brought magic into what once felt like a dull life.

By K.M.L Exciting story full of insights and points of view that seem "magical & unreal" but could actually apply to your life as well. I hardly ever read every word of a story, in fact before this book I can't remember the last time I read the whole thing, didn't get bored and skip forward.Still loving this book. I'm going to read it a 2nd time as there are all kinds of hidden secrets you can apply to your life to make it better. I wonder what I missed the first time! I know the author is working on Book 2 - I cannot wait for that!!!!!

By Autamme_dot_com This is a quite strange book, filled with humour and quite intriguing, interesting text that looks at the world of work by creating instruction manuals for many different jobs. It is a lot better than you first may fear.Do you fancy learning how to play a piano without a piano in Bolivia? How about being a magician in Paris? A ballerina in London? All this and more – a total of 14 different jobs – await. The book’s publicity material has some highbrow explanation for it: “The value of this book is twofold: For young people or middle-aged people who are undecided about their career paths and feel constrained in their choices, (the book) offers an expansive vision. For ethnographers, this book offers an excellent example of using the practical details of everyday life to shed light on larger structural issues.”The TL:DR version: Interesting, obscure, fascinating read about stuff you might never have thought you wanted to know about.There is the serious side to the book, such as it conveying jobs in culturally specific ways through a range of voices and perspectives, as in an older sister counselling her brother on how to be a doctor in Malawi. The less-serious side is the promise of a humorous, informative and credible read. The astute reader may also take away many interesting points that could possibly be shoehorned into other situations.As the book notes: “Think about the work you have done. You generally need a complicated mix of skills to do any of it well. You often have to learn some tacit knowledge and have some direct training, you need to show social competence and master some physical skills -- all specific to that particular occupation. To be a magician in Paris, you need to know how to perform tricks without much room to manoeuvre because you might have to do it in a restaurant. But you also need to know how to negotiate with a French government bureaucrat so that you can get a government stipend for being a creative artist. Some of what you need to know can be taught through books, some you can learn only after observing and practicing on the job itself, and some you learn from your mentors and co-workers.”When this reviewer first saw this book he expected to hate it or, at the very best, believe it would be so-so with the occasional bit of humour and interest. Yet it turned out to be a lot, lot better than that. A splendid curiosity that may appeal to the discerning reader.

Premise of the book is to share experiences of what it might be like to be a particular occupation. E.g. cell phone repair person. But the narrative that describes what it would be like is fiction- told from the point of view of an imagined perspective.

I found this book to be a fun and engaging read - not your typical career search or advice book By Chantal Bechervaise I found this book to be a fun and engaging read. I didn't want to put the book down. It was fun to read about and gain insights into so many other careers and 'quirky' jobs that I don't come across on a day to day basis. Not you typical job search or advice book, but it doesn't help expand the imagination on careers that are out there.

Search and Rescue dogs should be trained, certified and reliable. Training and reliability are determined by training logs maintained throughout a dog’s career, while certification verifies the training through third party testing. Training logs serve a very real purpose beyond the legal aspects of course; they also help a handler see the broader picture of their training progress. The book can be personalized, both the cover (and spine) and the inside front page. The small size makes it easier to bring along to trainings, which in turn makes writing up logs less of a chore for the handler. Additionally, the form is designed with a variety of check-boxes to make things simpler as well. This log book, consisting of about 6 months’ worth of blank forms, was created by a Search & Rescue K-9 handler for their own use. As a handler with multiple dogs in multiple disciplines, the author planned the log book to be “discipline generic”, so almost any SAR handler should be able to adapt it for their training records.

K-9 SAR Training Log, by Sharolyn L Sievert

About the Author Sharolyn Sievert, a Dog Writers Association of America (DWAA) finalist in 2015, is an engineering coordinator by trade and has been active in volunteer Search and Rescue since 2003. A member of Central Lakes Search and Rescue, she responds with her unit to calls from Law Enforcement from across the Upper Midwest of the United States to search for missing persons. The strength and purpose of their motto, “. . . so that others may live.” is not taken lightly. While she truly loves training dogs to cultivate and heighten their innate skills to locate the human scent, the goal is serious. Sharolyn was born in Tachikowa, Japan in an Air Force Base hospital on Mother’s Day, and her brothers liked to tell people that her left big toe is stamped ‘Made in Japan’ (it really isn’t). Sharolyn’s dad was an Eagle Scout and throughout his life, an avid outdoorsman and hunter. Because of her Dad’s love of the outdoors, family outings were often spent hiking in the woods and vacations meant camping. Her sister noted how very proud he would have been of his daughter's work with Search and Rescue. Sharolyn’s personal knowledge of outdoor survival, gleaned from a lifetime of experience, adds both to her skill as a SAR volunteer and to the accuracy of the SAR work presented in her book. Her family is incredibly proud and supportive of her “out of the norm” volunteer work. The miles spent on the road, crashing through woods in all weather, the hours of training, are a precious gift to those she serves. Over the years Sharolyn has trained and certified four different dogs in multiple disciplines, and responded to many, many searches. Additionally, she serves as an instructor, a speaker, a K-9 evaluator, and maintains certification in a number of areas beyond the K-9 work she loves, including being a Certified Minnesota Emergency Manager. Her hope is that the reader will find in the pages of her books an appreciation for the incredible, highly skilled work that a Search and Rescue dog can do, and the amazing dedication it takes to be a K-9 Search and Rescue handler.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Completely lacking in useful details By Ejhickso It is difficult for me to believe that the four and five star reviews for this item are genuine. I own other Japan-related guidebooks so was looking forward to adding this one to my collection based on the publisher's description. Instead, the book that I received offered less information than you'd get by simply printing out a few Tokyo-related websites. The rudimentary black & white maps have no useful navigation details such as streets or landmarks, and the hotel recommendations are simply lists of hotel names by neighborhood, with no descriptions or maps. Furthermore, place names and addresses are not written in kanji or kana, so few Japanese taxi drivers or non-English speakers would be able to help you find your way. On top of everything else, the formatting is awkward, the book is full of typos, and the binding feels like it is unlikely to withstand more than one day of use. I've already asked Amazon to refund my money -- this is a complete waste.

Terrific infromation source on Tokyo By Nick S As an experienced traveler for eight years, I'm proud to say I have read almost all types of guide books. This wanderlust pocket guide on Tokyo, Japan, one of the most interesting cities on the planet, really struck me as a unique one, given the amount of information provided in an efficient and simple way. If you only have time to read one travel guide on Tokyo, this gotta be the one.

In my opinion, its strength is that it's very motivational. She speaks simply and makes you feel like you can really reach your goals one small step at a time. I particularly liked the sections on wardrobe shopping and creating a clean and happy home, as I got a number of practical tips there. I also loved the snippets of feedback she collected from her blog readers that shared their ideas and perspectives, as well.I wouldn't say this is a detailed how-to book, however. At times, I hoped Danielle would go into greater depth on a topic or provide more specific real-life examples to illustrate her points. I understand that budgets are personal, but it really helps to see actual numbers and figures when you're discussing concepts related to budgeting and debt reduction. (She could use readers' examples or realistic hypotheticals, if she didn't want to share her own numbers.) There were also few meal recipes, which was a bummer since smart grocery shopping and home-cooking are such great ways to cut one's spending! I was also left wondering about how she'd advise planning for events in the faraway future, like retirement (or college for the kids, if applicable). The ideas here seemed to focus on financial security in the near future (1-2 years at a time), but I don't recall much discussion about planning for longer term family goals or the reality of one day retiring. Finally, I was a bit disappointing in the editing, as there were a handful of grammatical mistakes and some areas of unnecessary repetition. That's OK in a blog, but a published work for sale should be more polished.Overall, if you are a fan of Blissful and Domestic or looking for a simple motivational read, you will enjoy this book. If you're looking for specific financial advice or a detailed guide to revamping your finances, this might not completely meet your needs. I look to Danielle's blog for inspiration, however, so I enjoyed it and will probably re-read it in the future if I'm ever losing focus on my financial goals.

11 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Great overview of frugal living ideas and success tips By H. Oltman The book was very well written in a nice informal style that kept me reading. The author split the topics up very well and offered guidance on a wide range of topics, along with personal tips and learnings. Overall it contained good ideas for people starting off. Even for those of us who have been in the "frugal" community a long time, the book is very interesting and offers new ideas.
