The Kurdish question is one of the most complicated and protracted conflicts of the Middle East and will never be resolved unless it is finally defined. The majority of the Kurdish people live in Turkey, which gives the country a unique position in the larger Kurdish conundrum.

Society in Turkey is deeply divided over the definition and even existence of the Kurdish question, and this uncertainty has long manifested itself in its complete denial, or in accusations of political rivals of ‘separatism’ and even ‘treason’. Turkey’s Kurdish Question explores how these denial and acknowledgement dynamics often reveal pre-existing political ideology and agenda priorities, themselves becoming political actions. While the very term "Kurdish question" is discussed in the academic literature as a given, a new and systemic study is required to deconstruct and analyze the constitutive parts of this discursive construct. This book provides the first comprehensive study and analysis of the discursive constructions and perceptions of what is broadly defined as the "Kurdish question" in Turkish, European and American political cultures. Furthermore, its new methodological approach to the study of discourse and politics of secessionist conflicts can be applied to many similar intra-state conflict cases.

14 of 14 people found the following review helpful. Stunning, moving, richly detailed By Ronan Rooney I read this book a few summers ago, and I couldn't put it down. O'Neill's exhaustive research--including many personal interviews--helps solidify this book's place in the pantheon of great historical non-fiction of the 20th century. "The Firecracker Boys" picks up after World War II when the United States government, eager to find peaceful uses for nuclear power, proposed building a harbor near the remote Alaskan village of Point Hope using megaton nuclear explosions in a plan called "Project Chariot." The ambitious plan, which supporters felt could redeem nuclear weapons before the very eyes of a generation who saw its horrific power demonstrated on Japan, met fierce resistance among biologists, anthropologists, and most importantly local Alaska Native villagers of the region. These opponents feared radiation, debris fallout, and that the government continued to deny or downplay dangers of Project Chariot. O'Neill charts, in beautiful detail, the high-minded idealism of Project Chariot supporters against the burgeoning grassroots resistance which demanded fair recognition of Project Chariot's irreversible damage.While Project Chariot first arrived, and met its doom, in a remote quarter of the globe, this story is firmly fixed on the world stage. This is not the anecdotal story of a failed gimmick; rather, this is the genesis of the movement towards limiting nuclear power, recognizing environmental impact, and treating Alaska Natives as more than haphazard bystanders to industrial progress. People, personalities, subplots, and larger impacts for the whole of humanity enliven this story and give Project Chariot a rich context. I whole-heartedly recommend this book.

Lemas In 1956 the Suez Canal was nationalized which prompted the British and French to attach Egypt in order to secure the strategic passage. Although the conflict was ultimately settled by the United Nations, transportation through this region was halted for many months and the industrialized economies needed an alternative transportation route. During this same period the US and the Soviet Union were testing nuclear bombs and international community was requesting nuclear test-bans. Until reading this book, I was unaware the US Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) developed the Plowshare program to demonstrate the feasibility of nuclear blasts for civil engineering projects, namely the Panama canal. Given that non-military applications of nuclear bombs would have vast economic potential to reshape the globe, there was incredible pressure to locate a remote US territory where such a non-military nuclear blast could occur. Firecracker boys is the astonishing tale of Project Chariot, a Plowshare program aimed at excavating a large harbor in Point Hope, Alaska using nuclear bombs that would be 100+ times larger than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan in 1945.I thoroughly enjoyed this book from both the perspective of someone who has lived in Alaska and from the perspective of someone interested in federally mandated science projects. Dan O'Neill does a good job of distilling out the huge amount of information and misinformation that surrounds the events leading up to Project Chariots termination. This book describes the early days of nuclear testing, the scientific innovations that catalyzed many of today's current policies regarding nuclear energy and the personalities involved. I am currently a graduate student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and was surprised to read that many prominent leaders in Alaska supported Project Chariot in large part because of the federal revenue that was funneled into the state by the AEC. Overall I recommend this book as a MUST read for all Alaskans and those interested in the history of thermonuclear energy in the US.

Project Chariot is when the US government wanted to explode a nuclear bomb in Alaska, and the fight it took to prevent it. Today is a good day to read this because history is repeating itself........

Unfortunately, they don't really extend beyond pinning projects on Pinterest.After reading the synopsis of this book, I had high hopes that I could finally unleash my inner Craft Goddess! Sadly, she remains leashed for the moment as none of Mr. Kate's projects really appealed to me. I do want to try her nail polish suggestions, but that's about it. At least I have a fun new blog to follow!Most of the projects in this book are a little too quirky or young for my taste (a doily skirt? metal studs on your boot heels?), but I did love Kate's stories. Part memoir and part DIY, the stories were my favorite part of this book!Growing up in LA with a hippie-inspired mother and a father show business big wig, Kate's childhood sounds much more exciting then mine! I know that I never got to have dinner with Tom Hanks or meet Michael J Fox on a movie set. Then she grows up to marry a real-life rock star? Granted, he's a member of a boy band I've never heard of, but still!Kate seems like a fun, charismatic person and I loved reading her stories! While the crafts she choose to highlight in this book weren't for me, I'm sure that they'll appeal to her target audience and that they'll love the book!

Visually, the book is stunning. The photos and layout are gorgeous. And while not all the DIYs are inventive or something I'd be interested in doing that's to be expected.That said I did not enjoy the stories included. It honestly could be just that Kate can't write (sorry) and ends up telling her stories rather than sharing them and engaging the reader. But instead of being funny I found the book to be....her showing off? Most of the stories are just name-dropping with some filler. I guess I never realized how privileged she was from watching her YouTube videos, and that's my fault, but the book was just not entertaining and ended up rubbing me the wrong way. If you expect to be able to relate to Kate, don't. This a girl who spent $1,250 on Versace beach towels just because. And if you expect her book to be funny, don't.

By SunshineSasha If you are anything like me, I search the shelves at my local book store and find myself empty handed because of the lack of creativity that comes within the newest reading releases. Each DIY book contains the same projects, follows the same format, and at times feels like I'm reading the same text in each book. When branching out to autobiographies, the same exact story of loss and triumph are usually given with the exception of a new face plastered on the cover. Sometimes I feel as though with these categories, content has become unoriginal and the "true self" of people are lost between the lines of text they try to provide their audience for a positive and inspiring reaction. If you've found yourself in this same "reading rut" as I have, then I definitely recommend reading Mr. Kate's newest book release, "A Hot Glue Gun Mess".Kate takes you on a journey through short stories of her life in real events that helped defining who she is in her life today. This amazing, uncensored book gives a sign of relief that unoriginal content has not been lost and you truly feel as though you are talking to your closest, best friend with the stories Kate selflessly tells providing laughter, embarrassment, love, separation, and even those that make you want to blush yourself just hearing about! This new take on an autobiography is very refreshing and unlike any other autobiography I've read in the past.What also separates this release from others is that Kate puts her fashion, interior decorating, and DIY professionalism spin on each short story provided for a fun new project you can try at home yourself. By Cheri Clay My dream has always been to use the resources God has provided, however when it came to solar energy I always thought it would be difficult, time consuming as well as expensive. After reading Hobbs book I have found out just how wrong I was. I was amazed at all the information provided in only 27 pages. In simple to read language he explains exactly what I needed to know from what equipment is necessary besides the solar panels. Hobbs also covers installation, technical information, accessories as well as maintenance tips. I don’t believe anyone could be disappointed in using this exceptional guidebook, perfect for beginners to solar energy.

By Ruby Loves Adventure I love this book - I want to be more eco friendly and this book tells you what equipment you need to install solar panels, a bit of how it works, and how to maintain said solar panels. This is a great introductory book and gives you a rough estimate on how much each equipment would cost, and down to installing them (from location, to how much sunlight you need and getting all the parts to work)A great book, especially for eco lovers and DIYers out there!

However, why couldn't the vet have a name and the author who didn't identify herself until almost the end of book by saying they slept together....sort of. It would have been nice if author would have told us something about New Zealand, be more descriptive of the country and the community they lived in. She needed to inject more personaity into her characters. The other thing, is it is nice to have short stories but these were very abrupt and she could have developed a better yarn. It was as if she were in a hurry to get it said. The stories had the potential for such. Oh well, what is done is done.

The paper is heavier than a standard, cheaper coloring book, but best of all (!!!)...the images are printed on one side only and the pages are perforated! Woohoo! I like the designs (31 as the cover indicates) and most cover the entire page, something I personally like. There are 8 mandala designs that naturally do not cover every square inch. Every page is wonderful, filled with intricate designs, but not too intricate like so many books. I don't recommend for kids, but teens would do fine with it. If you are into patterns, mandalas, kaleidoscopic or want to try something different & awesome, you won't be disappointed. Peter Pauper Press hit a home run with this quality book, so I will definitely be checking out their other "31 Designs" books! Fellow Adult Colorists!...Enjoy & Have Fun - Debbie ;0)

I wrote the Veteran's Handbook to give veterans all the information they need to get the benefits they deserve from the VA and the state they live in. There is also a section on Veteran's Organizations and the benefits they provide, such as, helping the veteran through the entire disability claim process. This one benefit alone allows veterans to save money. Instead of hiring an expensive lawyer the veteran can get the same service free of charge from a Chapter Service Officer volunteers who has gone through extensive training to learn the process. There are also National Service Officers who just help veterans with their claims on a full-time basis. The veteran doesn't have to be a member of the organization to receive this help.

About the Author I was in the Army for six and a half years on Active Duty. My MOS was Food Service Specialist. I had many medical issues that were documented when I was sent to the Medical Board. I got out of the Army and received a 60% rating. I resubmitted for increased back pain and received 70%. I resubmitted a final time because of my migraines and I was granted 90%. It took a lot of time and research to make it successfully through the process to this point. I was very frustrated with the system because no one told me what to do and how to get the benefits I deserved. I did fortunately receive 2 good pieces of advice which were to go to the DAV to get help filing my claim and to make a copy of my medical records. I have done a considerable amount of research over the years and have put it in this book to help my fellow veterans.

She continues to research the VA system in order to bring us relevant information, all in one book, which stays up to date. Sure, we can do the same thing, call everyone, ask the questions, and find it out for ourselves, however, why do that when this author has already done the work, and now she shares how to be ‘system savvy’.The book outlines the benefits that apply to us in any state, and then breaks it down in the last section for benefits offered in all of the different states. It is written in a very logical order and flows well. Let’s face it, reference manuals are boring, but this one is written very clearly, and is awesome. The reference section in the back offers further valuable connections to organizations and resources.This book is a must have. I would buy the hard copy, to have on hand and write my notes in, then also the Kindle version, for convenience.

By Big E I spent a lot of years trying to get my benefits when I retired from the military and I was only at 40%. I had thyroid cancer and other physical problems and the Army only gave me 40%. I spent a lot of frustrating years fighting to get what I deserved. The problem was finding the information I needed to get the benefits I deserved. This book is an amazing book that not only tells you what benefits you are entitled to but step by step how to get them. I am now at 90% disability rating. I have just recently filed for a 100% unemployability rating. The information in this book is invaluable.

Zullo (zullo@mandic.com.br) It's really a pity (almost a shame) that Amazon.com doesen't have a complete list of Leblanc's work. Anyway, if you're intersted, in Brazil contact Editora Nova Fronteira. I really don't know if they are still publishing the books, but you should try. Leblanc's hero and at the same time, villain, is Arsène Lupin, a frenchman talented for arts, literature, wining young ladies' hearts, and, oddly, robbery. He is the portrait of the frenchman, hilarious, independent, clever, and human. Leblanc hit the bull's eye creating this kind of character to go against the other mistery characters of his time, like Agatha Christie's Poirot, or Father Brown, or Inspetor Maigret and, most of all, the All-Time Brittanic Sherlock Holmes. As a matter of fact, there is a book called "Arsène Lupin meets Herlock Sholmes", figure out why! "Crystal Stopper" is one of the three Leblanc's books one must read, it's the first one. The other two are called "The hollow Needle" and "813". In these books, Lupin is involved with treasures, has to decipher complicated plots, has to save his life and lives of people he cares about. The most funny chapters are the ones he has to deal with the french police force. He even disguises himself as a well-known and respected inspector for years, and no one is able to discover him. If you're sick and tired of Miss Jane Marple and such characters, take your time and find Leblanc's books. Another good guess is "The teeth of the tiger", showing an older and tired, yet very alive, Arsène Lupin.Follow him and discover his secrets, his passions, and his treasures.

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. This Kindle Version Is Missing Paragraphs of Texts By Sol T. Kim Crystal Stopper is one of the most entertaining Arsene Lupin adventures. Lupin is put on the defensive from the opening and has to fight his way out of the hole in which he finds himself. I highly recommend the book and prefer it to other versions where Lupin basically plays the superman.This particular Kindle version, however, is problematic. It is missing entire paragraphs from the book. Specifically, any time the original book paraphrases a letter or newspaper article, this version simply omits it. So frequently you get texts like the following (directly quoted):Among the late news he found the following pargraphs:In between other newspapers and prospectuses lay a letter. Lupin jumped when he say it. It was addressed:"Oh," he gasped, "a letter from Gilbert!" It contained these few words:Once again, Lupin spent a night alternating between sleeplessness and nightmares.This is extremely frustrating and takes away a great deal from book. Again, I highly recommend the book but there must be a better e-version of the book than this one.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. the crystal stopper By katherine Kourti Besides this book I have also read :"IN PURSUIT OF ARSENE LUPIN" ,"ARSENE LUPIN vs HERLOCK SHOLMES","EXTRAORDINARY ADVENTURES OF ARSENE LUPIN" in the early '90's translated into greek. I was totally taken by the portrail of the character and by how well-written the book was!!! I've managed to convince my husband to read :"The Extraordinary Adventures... " (the only title we could get from the library) and he absolutely loved it!We have decided to buy all the titles we could find because they are worth having. All lovers of SHERLOCK HOLMES should give Arsene Lupin a try!

It includes general hair tips, hair product and accessories descriptions and uses, and tons of tutorials. This book has inspired me to try and do more with my hair, and there are so many options and styles to choose from. From modern looks to retro inspired styles, there truly is something for everyone. The instructions are clear and helpful, the pictures are beautiful, and there are drawings throughout to help emphasize the details. The book is so visually appealing too that instead of storing it away in a bookshelf or drawer, it's a perfect display piece on my vanity. So happy I purchased this, and it is now my go-to reference guide for all things hair-related!!

Jones I bought 12 of these books after my first purchase since it makes such an amazing affordable quality gift for the "women in my life"....both personally and professionally. Everyone loves this book. It's full of great "how to" illustrations as well as beautiful photographs. Best of all, it is well written. I loved the size of the book. It's not your normal book size and is very cool and smells of quality when you hold it in your hand and flip through the pages. I highly recommend the book for you and the women around you.

Like some crack dealer, the author Chris Fox gave a free taste of this via a post on Reddit giving away No Such Thing as Werewolves for free. I can pretty much state with 110% certainty if it weren't for that Reddit post, that I would never have picked up these books.I purchased the next 2 with actual cash money. Enjoy those 2 lattes i just paid for , Chris.I'm halfway through this final book . I wanted to write a review for either the first or second books which i have actually finished, but this book has the fewest reviews and THE WORST title (not that i could come up with anything better). So i wanted to bump it.I am big into fantastical stories that have internally consistent magic systems. Kinda like... Mistborn or the Brent Weeks books.I guess "balance" is the key. like some super elaborate paper scissors rocks system. that way, its less deus ex and more resourcefulness of the characters that solves problems. this story has that.I love Finger prints of the gods type stuff , para-archaeology . Like how Engines of the God started. Stuff is so ancient and yet so advanced everything we thought we knew is flipped! Who were they!? this story has that.I also like, parallel mythology that crosses cultures. like why do these 2 remote places have the same creation myths or whatever?! oh crap same real life phenomenon!! this story has that.The author puts a new spin on some very well used themes weaving a lot of things together skillfully. The scope of the story is pretty big. And there are a lot of references that I get. He ties in a lot of themes. Also i think the author is a programmer and i think that sort of object oriented thinking leaks into his writing.I am a terrible writer , i even cringe thinking how poorly written this review must be. This new author isn't terrible , and this series is worth a shot if you like stuff like me. My commute time and the pages of this series have just melted away. i look down sadly as my kindle progress % creeps up way too fast. and i resent that each book is shorter (less dots on the kindle home screen) than the last.anyway, well done Chris Fox. I hope like Hugh Howey or Andy Weir or John Scalzi , you can quit your day job too.... and get a movie deal someday.Trevor is the best.

By R Hart Being a junkie for scifi more on the fantasy side, I run through a lot of different series. I enjoy getting invested in characters and seeing some great development in their journey. This was my favorite discovery of 2015. The author has given us a world where all the old story typecasting is not as predictably evident. Strong characters that work, without giving up on everything tried and true. I still got to have my favorite aspects of a great lighthearted read: a of the character you have to care for, the character you love hating, action and some intrigue and still get some nice surprises along the way. If you're looking for a paranormal series that has most of the feel good recipe but still delivers some surprising aspects. basically to turn old tropes on their ear, you may love the Deathless series. I'll keep going on the series to see how some of the items dropped here and there eventually tie in.

As a Military guy I generally stay towards military sifi and space operas, however I came across these books by accident as I was looking at Destroyer also by this author. This was a Dublin thrill ride over the last 4 days. Some people binge watch TV, I binge read book series.I found the end of this book not as good as the others but I am assuming it is setting up the next set. I eagerly await this hopeful continuation. I have 4 book series that I check Amazon for at least every two weeks for a new book. This will become my 5th. If you read this review, and you like action and mythology...BUY THE SET

The best banjo instruction book on the market- by far By richard climie This is by far the best banjo instruction book I have found in several years of lookingRoss Nickerson has gone to a lot of trouble to explain all the techniques in a clear consise mannerHis section on the rolls is superb and he takes you along with him through the book by gradually increasing thecomplexity of the exercises and songsI have learned more from this book ( and my playing has improved more) in the past month than the past 18 months ofwading through other books and skype lessons. Even my wife noticed and I am now allowed to practice in the living room! Well done Ross, I hope its a best seller- Richard Climie

And it does so in a very concise and direct way that I enjoyed very much By Jan Cardozo As a programmer I’ve always been interested in the C/C++ language; since it’s always being remarked as the most powerful and flexible of all the high level programming languages. So I took some time to read this book on my local library.The book takes you through the bases of the language; variables, operators, capturing input and flow control. And it does so in a very concise and direct way that I enjoyed very much.It pretty much gave me a complete introduction to what I wanted to learn.But that wasn’t everything the book had in store…To my surprise, the book had a comprehensive introduction to MySQL too; data types, query and ddl syntax, and even a small chapter covering how MySQL and PHP can work together.A pretty complete package, I would recommend this to anyone looking for an introduction to either technology.

Currently we are working on designing a proprietary contact relationship management software at my firm and our team of programmers are writing it with a lot of MySQL. I have a good understanding of what they are talking about because I read this and databases are not my forte.
