By Amazon Customer When I saw this book, I remember my mom, she really love crocheting, I can see it in my eyes that she really had fun and enjoyed while crocheting stuff for us, she maked hat, wallet, dresses and shoes for our barbie toys. Out of curiosity, I really want to learn this, too. It's a bit hairsplitting, but I know I can teach myself crocheting during my free time. It's great for relieving stress and showing creativity while having fun! Nice guide book!

Very easy to understand and the author writes very well. Even plumbing becomes interesting. For example, I've been struggling to open up a slow draining tub in my older home. I've tried everything I could think or. Learned from the book that Pro's usually just replace the drain trap - that there really is no way to clean it out once the gunk has hardened in it - and this just happens after many years of service. So that is my next project...

He had a good chapter on wells and pumps which I couldn't find in other plumbing books.

Huebner I have a real fondness for this book, because it's the first story my son was able to understand. It's about two dogs, Big Dog and Little Dog. They become hungry, eat, and then curl up together to go to sleep. It's a very simple story, with very simple pictures, told in very simple language: "Big Dog is hungry...Little Dog is hungry, too...Big Dog is sleepy...." And therein lies its magic. It's so darn simple that a baby can understand it. My son was not quite one when I started reading it to him. I remember being so excited at the prospect of a real story after all those months of "naming" books. And when I realized he understood what was going on, it was heaven. Now my son is two and a half and has moved on, so to speak. (The book is probably best enjoyed by the under-two crowd.) But this book has become one of my standard baby gifts.

We look at Little Dog's sweater, Big Dog's collar and tongue, the owner's boots and coffee. It has a slightly unexpected ending that makes my 18 month old laugh every time we read the book, which is about 18 times a day. I just mention the title and my little one giggles. I've bought the whole series now, and we're not disappointed.

I bought this for my Kindergartener because so many of the I Can Read books are still too advanced for earlier reader. Most words in the book are sight words and simple enough for her to read and still comprehend the story. I will be purchasing others from this series/publication. It gives her such confidence to read a book on her own. Of course after few reads she has mastered it, and probably won't re-read them much.

Warning: Tale of Dominance and Control By Houyhnhnm Since I've trained and retrained "difficult" horses for some 45 years, I expected to love _Last Chance Mustang_, but the book troubles me. I expected Bornstein's history of America's free horses to trouble me because the record itself is horrific, but I hadn't expected to be troubled by the story of Bornstein and Samson, the BLM horse.Bornstein is obviously experienced and intelligent, but despite his good explanations, I still wonder why he took on this particular horse. Why attempt major repairs of a tortured 12 year old gelding? While some healing of the horse was possible, why not sanctuary for Samson? Bornstein recognized the severity, especially the PTSD. Yet he chose to work with Samson. Then why didn't he address the PTSD more directly? Did he modify his methods because of the torture?More troubling yet was the owner. An inexperienced and overwhelmed owner with dangerously inadequate facilities equals major red flags. What motivated Bornstein here? Ego? (Working for free suggests that. I tend to work for free.) Why didn't he offer to help her relocate Samson for the safety of all involved? Why didn't he offer to buy the horse? What happened to the horse after the book ends? I'm troubled when I finish a book with more questions than answers.Then there's the speed at which he works. Some of his setbacks suggest a need to slow down. Then there's this line: "I was left with no option but to tie Samson to an old, rusted, ramshackle iron farm gate . . . " (214). NO OPTION?! A trainer ALWAYS has other options. Not continuing a task until a safe option exists is one of them. He knew that too. Why does he say he had no option? Why was he rushing a horse as damaged as Samson? WHY?As crucial as speed are Bornstein's training strategies. Everything smacks of old school Natural Horsemanship (NH). My jaw tightened every time I saw the word "control" and he repeats the word over and over. "Control," along with "domination," suggests extensive, even exclusive, use of negative reinforcement (pressure-and-release). While NH revolutionized horse training for many, it relies on negative reinforcement and often stresses horses, not something Samson needed. Moreover, recent ethological studies seriously challenge the old concepts of herd interaction, denting, perhaps even toppling, the established concepts of dominance and leadership as a natural basis for horse training. Replacing this model over the last few decades is a new standard based on trust and friendship, the sort of horse training Alois Podhajsky of the Spanish Riding School long espoused. Strengthening these shifts in horse training, recent horse brain studies revealed that negative reinforcement activates the "flee" part of the horse brain while positive reinforcement (adding a reward--a rub, a treat) activates the "seek" center. Even if Bornstein hews to the old pressure-and-release school of control and dominance, I still wonder why he didn't introduce some positive reinforcement. An apple after work? That's fine, once the horse knew how to eat apples, couldn't that have been worked into the training as a regular feature? If any horse ever needed his "seek" center activated, it's Samson.Yet Bornstein strove to gain the trust of a damaged horse through dominance, through control. Trust created through dominance is the trust a slave gives a good master. Trust through time and positive reinforcement creates a friendly partnership. That's my most troubling question about _Last Chance Mustang_. Will others think negative reinforcement creates healthy trust? What influence will this book have on those with little horse experience?I hope all who read the good _Last Chance Mustang_ will find time to read Alois Podhajsky's _My Horses, My Teachers_. Without benefit of modern research and in a society that believed physical punishment worked on horses, he emphasized the horse as friend. With that and his motto "I have time," he won a Olympic Bronze in dressage on a gelding that'd been demoted by the Austrian cavalry.

By Maxlynn I just finished your book and would like to tell you what a moving experience it was for me, as a horse advocate, to see the understanding with which you approached this damaged life and it brought tears to my eyes. Your entire book is cry for the understanding of horses, both wild and domestic. It stands as an indictment of the malfeasance and corruption within the BLM, the Department of the Interior and horse world in general.But more importantly, the magnificence of our Children of the Wind shines out so brightly….your history of the horse and your pointing out that each and every horse on the face of this planet today carry not only the blood lines of the Dawn Horse, originating right here in North America, but that horses today carry the seeds of the buffalo chaser and warrior horses and the intelligence, adaptability, endurance and strength of the American Mustang as well. Each horse today is a miracle based on the glacial period which may well have wiped out our horses in this hemisphere 10,000 years ago (although I am not entirely convinced that they were). We should be preserving and protecting them as no animal in the history of man is more responsible for the advancement of man as a conqueror and no animal had more to do with the advancement of civilization. And we thank them how……by sending them to brutal slaughter at the end of terrifying transport in trucks, trains, planes and ships, to foreign soil where their flesh is rendered by the pound in a brutal and painful death.The way in which you approached Samson, the way you knew he was wild in his soul and always would be, your willingness to accept his magnificent Mustang Soul, the fierce and independent warrior captured in his very being, this horse tied to earth on which he was born and torn from, only to be abused by each and every human being who came in contact with him, but somehow, you saw the secrets of his soul. You gave him the space and the time to come to know you and trust in you. You formed a true partnership with him, knowing that you would have to earn his trust and that it could only be earned at price….not many people would take the time or subjugate themselves to a horse, especially one as branded as Samson was as a worthless and untamable beast.I want to thank you for your time, your patience, your understanding of this magnificent horse. I cried like a baby when you decided to leave him at the farm with his new found herd to live the life he was supposed to live. I know it how hard it must have been to leave him and let him have his peace and at what great cost to yourself it must have been, but his happiness and satisfaction with this new life must give you peace. I hope you still spend time with him because I think he will always need to connect with you. How I envy you his friendship! Thank you.

It tells an enlightening, emotional journey of a mustang and a remarkably sensitive and gifted human soul. I was expecting the book to convey the struggles and difficulties of working and training the wild horse, however it delivered so much more than my expectations. As a horse person I am aware of the plight of the wild mustangs but the interwoven research that was put forth in this book brings an extreme insight into what is happening to our “protected” wild mustangs which is undeniably appalling. It would really be wonderful to see this book picked up for a movie – a call to action - to raise the awareness of what our government is doing to these incredible animals. A recent movie, Unbranded, I had high hopes for doing just this, was so utterly disappointing and heartbreaking as it was unbearably biased towards the BLM, not to mention what the mustangs endured. Were they lucky to be removed from the BLM holding pens? Yes. But to be shod, yee-hawed and traveled over terrain they would never do on their own accord was appalling. Mitch’s approach and empathy in working with the wild mustang sheds a much needed light on achieving goals and accomplishments through respect, patience and understanding. It is paramount that these wonderful wild animals be understood. The abilities of these incredible animals to endure the atrocities imposed at the hands of mankind is irrefutably deplorable. There is no doubt action needs to be taken. There is a better way. Thank you Mitch for delivering such a well-written, well-informed book. A must read for every American to gain insight into the atrocities of our government neglecting to uphold the rights of these beautiful creatures who unfortunately have no voice. We need to be there voice!

Perfect for those trying to catch up on a ton of great work or to learn more about the original books before you buy them. All the top books are in here and I found them well formatted and structured for easy reading.So many great non-fiction books! Even ones I had no interest in before I found were great and bought the originals. I would have missed out! I highly recommend this great value. You can't go wrong with 25 of the best selling books on the NYT list. The Power of Habit, Money Master the Game, Zero to One and It Starts with Food are well worth the price of admission alone. Highly recommended!

For a mere .99 cents you get a full overview of 25 current NYT bestseller non-fiction books. Each overview contains the major content, individuals and historical incidents covered by the individual books themselves. This allows us each to make an informed decision of whether we want to invest the time and money to read the full books. From Elon Musk to the Wright brothers the range is extensive. I have personally found this to be of valuable service.

Amazing collection of Best Seller Summaries By TFLReader I read so many books on a weekly basis that it is almost impossible for me to keep authors, titles, characters and plot lines straight. Top this off with the fact that I belong to several (probably too many) book clubs, and this can become an issue when I have to intelligently discuss something I've read in the past. Instaread summaries are indispensable to me as a means to keep things straight and even to get more out of what I've read. This collection of best seller summaries is the deal of the century. INSIGHTFUL HEARTWARMING CLASSIC NOVELLA By Doctor Feelgood A mixture of sea travel, African slave trade, and the perils of life at this time in history. The Christian Ethics of this short novel apply today as much as when Kingston wrote this insightful book about sea travel and early coastal African trade. A recommended read especially for juvenile readers.

You learn a lot about certain characters backgrounds. You learn about the Pixies. You learn a little more about Frotwoot than he knew about himself. I love the direction the book is heading and I can`t wait to see what happens next.

The anticyclone keeping the weather fine had been christened Magdalena. The woman told people to call her Larissa. She came and went. He didn't know where from or where to.Thus starts Wagner's latest novel, Light in a Dark House. Young detective Kimmo Joentaa has finally found the courage to move on after the death of his wife and is living with a mysterious woman who calls herself Larissa. When he is called to the scene of the murder of a nameless woman at the local hospital in Turku, Joentaa is surprised - the woman had been the victim of an unsolved violent crime and had been in a coma for weeks, not expected to survive. What would be the motive to kill her? Even more mysterious is the evidence that the killer has shed tears at the woman's bedside - a murderer who weeps for his victim? For Joentaa, solving this particular crime takes on a new meaning when he not only has to deal with the memories of his wife's death on the same hospital ward years ago, but also Larissa's disappearance from the house at the same time the victim is murdered. Soon more victims follow, and Joentaa links the murders to his nameless victim in Turku - someone is apparently seeking revenge for a crime committed years ago, but what was it, who was the woman, and most importantly, who is the killer?German born and raised and having made Finland his new home, Wagner writes an unusual hybrid type of mystery - a Scandinavian setting with the melancholy atmosphere of Northern Europe. The scenes play out almost movie like in front of the reader's eyes - imagine a kaleidoscope of atmospheric visual backdrops accompanied by mournful violin music. Snow softly falling on a lost key under an apple tree, a lonely cabin with its lights burning waiting for Joentaa's lover to return, the stark halls of a hospital where Joentaa's wife died. Each scene providing a small glimpse into a character's most innermost feelings, hopes and dreams. Wagner doesn't offer explanations, but instead slowly develops the picture of his characters through carefully placed hints and descriptions which circle in the air like carelessly blown smoke rings, expanding and intertwining until the reader can form his/her own picture.Unlike many other Scandinavian thrillers, violence is understated in Light in a Dark House, though it is always present, a menacing shadow bearing down on its characters. Wagner is not interested in serving up graphic scenes of violent death to shock his readers, but instead focuses on the crime's victims and its aftermath of sadness and loss on others. Often the boundaries between good and evil, justice and crime are blurry, with the victims becoming the perpetrators and vice versa. Wagner does not judge, simply presenting each character's thoughts and emotions and letting them speak for themselves. And yet the novel deals with some dark and disturbing issues: domestic violence, sexual abuse, trauma, loss, grief and the fate of the nameless victim with nobody to fight for them.Sadness is a dominant thread running through the entire novel, expressed in the tears the murderer sheds for his nameless victim, in Joentaa crying when confronted with the crime's secondary casualties, or in Larissa sobbing in her sleep. Wagner shows a rare insight into the dark night of the soul when a loved one dies, and explores this in the thoughts and actions of his characters. Everyone who has ever lost a loved one will relate to some of the desolation described in the novel - both in its symbolism as well as its characters. Light in a Dark House is more than simply a murder-mystery, but deals with intricate emotional issues which stay with the reader long until the last page has been turned. In the end not everything is explained and much is left to the reader for interpretation, which in this case worked well for me and left me mindful of the complexities of the human psyche. For my part, I loved Wagner's writing style, which is both sparse and yet rich in emotional depth. Joentaa, who is not afraid to shed tears for the victims of the crimes he is trying to solve, is a complex, mysterious character who I would love to know more about. Only after reading this novel did I find out that Light in a Dark House is the fourth book in a series featuring Kimmo Joentaa, with earlier novels dealing with the aftermath of his wife's untimely death and developing a character with rare psychological insight into the minds of the perpetrators.I highly recommend Light in a Dark House to anyone who is looking for a bit more than your average murder-mystery. For my part, I am planning to read all of Wagner's earlier books, and eagerly await the next Kimmo Joentaa book in the series.

By Liz Barnsley **3.5 stars** Read in the UK.Thank you to the author and publisher for a copy of this book via netgalley.When an unidentified woman in a coma is murdered, Finnish Detective Kimmo Joentaa is called to the scene - the hospital in which his wife died several years earlier. More deaths follow and as he attempts to unravel the mystery his life is further complicated by the disappearance of his sometime girlfriend Larissa.I liked this one. I don't read an awful lot of European/Nordic fiction it has to be said, an error I am currently correcting with several of my reading choices lately and this novel has made me want to continue on that quest. I found the characters to be quirky and intriguing - I believe there are other novels in this series but this is my first foray into the world of Kimmo Joentaa - with a well imagined mystery and enough past information to go by it was one that kept me up late into the night and thats always a good sign. However...There were some downsides - I struggled to keep up with some of the characters and in places it felt like you had the start of a sub plot that never went anywhere. Also there were a great many peripheral characters that I felt the book could have done without. But these are small things, overall it kept me interested and reading onwards to discover the resolution.The ending was slightly abrupt for me as well it has to be said. It kind of meandered along during the last few chapters before coming to a reasonably satisfying conclusion..which didnt immediately make me want to read more but did make me feel like there was more to be had.Overall a pleasant read, one that I enjoyed very much without ever becoming completely immersed in it. Perfect escapism, well written crime fiction.Happy Reading Folks!

We learn more about his feelings for Larissa - the unusual woman who has abruptly come into his life - and just as suddenly disappearsKimmo Joentaa is an unusual character in that he is rather quiet and introverted - almost similar to aspergers - yet he is able to piece together information in ways that are very insightful - pieces others miss. To me, getting to experience the way he thinks is one of the great draws to this series :)In this story a woman is found by the side of the road in a coma. No one knows who she is even though her picture is run in the paper. Then she is murdered while in the hospital and tears are found on her bed clothes...salty tears from the murderer.In another city, a man is murdered in public view of many people - yet no one seems to be able to describe the murderer.The story revolves around putting the pieces together about how they are related... the story from the past that brought these pieces together

This book made me want to go out an buy a journal to start keeping on a regular basis. With simple steps to follow as a guide to keeping your journal, you really can’t go wrong with this book. So much helpful information that I would definitely recommend this book.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A wonderful guide for beginners By Kytka Hilmar-Jezek Sarah Miller has written an excellent beginners guide for keeping a journal. She begins the book telling us that we write to record events, express ourselves, to keep to-do lists, jot down our goals, keep track of our progress, look at things from a different perspective, visualize our futures, brainstorm ideas, visualize plans or strategies, improve our writing skills and to connect to our inner selves. The many benefits are presented as well as the different elements and how to best keep a journal. I really enjoyed Chapter 4: Steps and Strategies for Writing a Journal and realized that this greatly helped me in organizing my journal entries. I loved her advice about not caring about grammar and writing often. In the moment, we don;t think about it so much, but later (usually years later) we will appreciate having some order or timeline to our journey. This was a short book but a valuable guide in getting someone started in journal writing.
